Using Achievement Points

when I started the game there was a help text that popped up explaining achievement points. I have maybe 280+ points and I was wondering if there was a way to spend them on stuff. I believe the help text said something about an NPC in Gridania that I should talk to. If anyone has any info, I would greatly appreciate it if you would share.

Can be used to get rare weapons/armor

If you are in a free company the achievement points also go toward the free company to help it rank up.

oh btw - any time you need to go back to the active help just go via 'system' bottom right of the screen :)
