Error 1017 is my favorite in-game quest

So, I have now had this game for about 4 days, and have gotten to play maybe a total of 4 hours. I understand that there was a much larger number of players than expected, but don't use that as an excuse. FFXIV bombed. Many of us even dropped ($90.00?) on the limited edition just to end up wasting our money, which was never reimbursed.
Here's the question of the day...
After a game meant for possibly upwards of a million players just bombs and is cut from being played, how do you not prepare for the worst possible outcomes.
Again I understand that with it's history you might not worry about overpopulation issues, but at least have an easy fix in your back pocket...
Took me a day to start the game and two days to knock out the first 20 quests. I hope it's all fixed by Sept 4th.
It would be a shame to see this game end up like the last, especially over server issues.
I'm only bringing this up because I have already started hearing, "If I can't login soon, I'm just going to go get my money back..."
I want this game to go far and be popular, but at the same time this is a horrible time to drop the ball.
I'm not a fan really, but, The Elders Scrolls MMORPG started Beta testing, it's easy for that to sway peoples position on FFXIV: ARR.

As for comments, I don't need a lecture, please spare me one. As previously stated I understand the issue, it's just upsetting. Thanks.

You forgot quest 5006, 2002 and probably 10,000 other quest you have to do for several hours before you get to play the game.

I try now for 4 hours and only get Lobbyserver issues or the character list for NA/EU error and even without this two, there is of couse still your favorite ;)

It's so bad I can predict with 100% accuracy which error I'll get next.

Best thing about this quest is that it's repeatable multiple times a day!

You should exploit this as much as possible before maintenance, because they might be nerfing it. :(
