Reason behind so many 1017 errors.

People are going afk in the inns and not logging out. That's why, even at odd hours, you'll get this message. Prior to this week, I was able to get off work at 8am and log in with no problems.

Now, I see even people on my friends list as AFK in the inns during times they never play. This is incredibly selfish and there should be a hotfix/maintenance to auto-log out people that are AFK for more than 20 minutes.


Edit: I tried this myself, before posting, but forgot to include it. Just to be sure, I tried doing the same before going to bed. 7 hours later and I was still logged in and still in the inn in Ul'Dah.

Well, before anyone says it, you know they're just gonna call you a hypocrite and stuff right? Shoulda just left that last part out.

I did it once to test it and that was it.

There's nothing wrong with the OP admitting it. I need to shut down my computer on a nightly basis or I'd do it.

Everyone is doing it because everyone is doing it. Sitting at a login screen for an hour, two, four, is absurd.

Auto-kick after an hour would fix a lot of this by constantly kicking people who afk'd. It won't fix the population issues, but there aren't actually this many people at once, just so many afk.

Not even an hour. AFKing is for things like bathroom breaks and giving babies a bottle and shit like that, NOT to hog open spaces. Like I said, I admitted to trying it out before posting, just so I had facts to back up my statement. I work overnights, so seriously... who the hell is playing at 5am est to 9am est? There cannot be that many basement dwelling parent-leechers per server.

They are aware of the problem, and considering a fix.

The DF sucks, but that's because no one plays healers. Let more people on, via drop kicking the bums and we'd have more healers for the Duty Finder.

umm people like me who get off work at midnight central time... and as that being my main playing time..there are actually A LOT of people playing those times

Midnight central, versus 4am central to 7 am central. There's a big differential in that time period, especially on weekdays.
