ran out of quests
i started as a thaumaturge and got to level 17 easy and fast and advanced the story line quest to this point as well. i decided i wanted to main heal instead of dps. so i went to gridania and learned conjurer and started leveling it up. started out fast and easy as it was for my thaumaturge until i got to lvl 9, when i completely ran out of quests to do. i had a quest to turn in at 10 so i grinded/fate'd my way to lvl 10 and turned it in expecting to get more quests. there were none to find. kept grinding/fating/guildhest/hunting expecting to get more quests the next level. and every level i would go and check every zone around gridania no no avail finding maybe 1 quest every other lvl. i am now lvl 17 and there are still no quests for me to pick up so i can continue questing. i have logged out and back in and asked people in game and no one seems to know.

Open your quest journal and tell me what your last main story quest was.

Some quests require you to be a certain lvl, there are tons of side quests try looking in every area of Thanalan (not sure if i spelled that correct) south, west etc. if you are trying to grind for a quest do the FATE quests they give you a decent amount of Exp for lower lvls

go to the other city-states and do there quests, you don't have to stay in gridania. also if you are lvl 17 you should be running dungeons to lvl to 20(you should have started running dungeons when you hit lvl 15). dungeons are the fastest way to lvl.

You can open the "Recommendations" window (no HotKey for this iirc unless you bind one) to check if a new quest popped up in your current area. You could also do some LeveQuests provided you have allowances. Hunting log is also a good way to get exp. If all else fails, FATE quests it is.

Yeah I'm really worried about quests when I start leveling up my other classes. FATE grinding is such a boring thing to do for myself although I do like running into them while I'm out questing or doing my hunting log. I found a bunch low-mid 30s but after that it's been pretty dry.

Not sure how you're having this issue. I mean you should be level 3 just off of the running around town quests, you'll hit level 4 after doing the guild quest, and the few that have you go kill stuff.
If you want to know an easy way to gain early levels fast when starting a new class in a new town, find the class you want, and obviously do all the run around town stuff, but also, go join every other guild, while still equiped as your new class. its 100 exp for each guild you join. While the amount you gain is different for each town when doing this(thanalan being the best), its an easy bunch of exp.
Also, do levequests and guildhests.

You've most likely missed / not completed the next story quest. Additional side quests opens upon completing each main story quest. Also - don't forget (apart of leve quests and FATEs) to complete also your hunting logs - those are fairly large additions to your XP gain and are separate for each class. Use the XP bonuses ("sleep" in sancuaries / inn rooms while you're not playing / logging off to gain bonus, use various food or drink items), use chaining of the kills and finally remember that when you're levelling the secondary classes with levels below your main class you're receiving the additional bonus as well. Of course leveling up in party is no brainer as each party kill count to your XP as well and so on.
