Retainer Leveling System - Discussion

Retainer Level System
A lot of people would love a way to access a retainer en-route somewhere, or to bring up the market board from their retainer / etc. So I suggest adding a rank / level system to the retainers. Now, some people may think, "Well, how will you rank / level it?" That's a big issue. You would level, primarily at first, by selling things on the market board. However, instead of basing EXP based on how much you sell the item for. Base it on the quantity, and quality, rather than the price. This way, you won't be able to gain exp by just selling at like, 1 Gil. Furthermore, here's what ranks I'd like to see:

• Rank 1 - Standard
• Rank 2 - Able to do "Buy Requests" (Automatic buying of certain items. IE: Materials. Have to already have one of the item to provide so the retainer knows what you're looking for.)
• Rank 3 - Able to get EXP from "Buy Requests" and not just Selling items.
• Rank 4 - Able to summon via a skill in the wilderness. (You are given "Vulnerability Up" when summoning the retainer, and cannot be esuna'd, etc.) (Cannot store items from mobile version.)
• Rank 5 - Able to view the market board from the wilderness via the retainer.
• Rank 6 - Able to store items from mobile version of retainer.

i dunno, it seems as if your asking to be spoonfed, doing the rank 2 one is just lazy, it takes minimal effort to click the board and search what you want, ive always been a stern believer in not being spoonfed, its a game you want to be able to go to that market board search for an item you need and notice another little trinket you didnt think you needed and then buy it for a *just in case* moment, takes the run out of the game if they added something like youve suggested (not saying its a bad idea but it seems the person would become lazy)

I don't think this is spoon feeding at all, many people want to play the actual game and not the markets and economy, yes for some people they enjoy this aspect, but for people who want to log on and craft without the hassle of finding cheap items, it would be helpful if a retainer could be set to buy X item at X price when they become available.

I like most of that, though rank 4 seems a little useless on it's own. Being able to summon a retainer, but until rank 5 you can't use the markets, and until rank 6 you can't store things (assuming retrieve is also part of that, retrieve without store is somewhat counter intuitive) what else is there, aside from looking at them.

So just a couple of tweaks, rank 4 let me summon my retainer in the wild for storage/retrieval, working the markets in the heart of mor dhona doesn't seem like it should be a priority, but if I happen to have gear on a retainer and my group makeup is changing, we're losing our healer for instance, getting my gear for that would be the tits.

Also, I'm all for buy orders, if they're searchable by people looking to sell things quickly. If I can look through them and find that someone is looking for an item I want to be rid of, if it's reasonably priced I'd gladly fill their order to be rid of it, like Eve Online markets, but without the escrow scamming.

I would say, use a system similar to the Chocobo companion. When they level they gain SP and you can then buy traits and abilities:

- Increased storage
- Call them anywhere, anytime
- Assist with crafts
- Buy orders

That was originally planned from what I heard.

it was planned but never impelemented as there was that minor thing about the orignal game going flop on its face, anyways I am sure they still got that system functional somewhere in their game labs, I like the idea for retainer lvls as for how to lvl it, I would like you guys to look at "X" game series there is a mod in that where you get your ships to do auto pilot trading in a sector and it lvls up, as it lvls up it unlocks other things such as traveling into different systems and stuff, so back to this game I would suggest adding in something similar.

where you can lets say send your retainer to find some item for you, nothing unique or high end items lets say like go find me such and such ore but what they come back with is a sample of that ore and log entry as to where to mine is from, or fish or log it from, could do it with crafting as well giving out some unique insights into crafting like giving some recipies for house decorations when they are unlocked, you can build them but only for that crafts you have, like if you are wvr you get a recipe that requires wvr or as lw you get lw recipe.
