The Battle System current and the future.
I know the current battle system is getting changed a lot over the next few patches but here are my concerns of the battle system and what I hope gets accomplished by the "revamp"
The current battle system lacks the fluid aspect, I don't feel like the battles are heroic in anyway. I find the system is just a bunch of people spamming until the mobs are dead. The stat system must be addressed along with the battle revamp because stats are just a giant mess right now, stats make a very minimal impact on combat at the moment.
FFXIV allows the player to "sidestep" certain TP moves by mobs, I like this aspect because it is unique but its implementation is bad because your character is locked down during attack/spell casting animations, you're not able to move during weapon skills, this is a big big problem which goes back to it not being fluid enough for a modern day MMO.
The stamina gauge is just too limiting, it hinders the player and disrupts the pace of combat. Combat should be fast paced, fluid where you can move freely, heroic, and meaningful. Players should be thinking quickly and staying on their toes while in combat while trying to avoid damage from nasty tp moves.
The combat awareness needed in this game is just very lacking. I remember in many interviews in the past leading up to the alpha testing it was said that "orientation is everything while in combat, distance from mob, having to move." This sounded great but there are things that make doing that very limited and must be addressed in the revamp.
I am a little concerned about auto-attack if the rules are left unchanged, like I said earlier, your character is stuck in place during attacking/spell casting animations then there is the stamina issue, how is it going to work? I am hoping this is all being taken into serious consideration because I just don't see it working well unless the rules are re-done.
I am sure you guys have heard this thread a 1000 times, I am looking forward to the revamp. I really hope that at the end of the day we will see a fluid, heroic combat system in FF14 that does the game true justice that brings it into modern day MMO standards. I know it can be done because of how good the combat system was in FF13.
