Having trouble paladin tanking multiple targets.

I feel like I'm using all my aoe threat-generative abilities but when it comes to multiple add situations I begin to lose hate on other mobs relatively fast which leads to me having to turn around and chase mobs around.

Are there any Paladin tanks out there that can give their advice in how to prevent this?

Mark your targets so the DPS won't take the hate from an enemy you're not building on.

Actually, here. I did this in the 'many tanks are bad' thread.

DPS should keep their focus on the tanks marks unless otherwise necessary.

I do.

But some jobs have some strong aoe abilities. Like SMN, who spread dots around seem to build hate really fast. Or even healing hate will pull secondary mobs really fast. There must be something I'm missing

Omg you rock dude!

I haven't gotten paladin yet but I've run into similar issues with my GLD. Flash helps but it doesn't cut it when an archer is going to town on a different mob than what you're attacking. Marking will definitely help or just telling people in the begining to please focus on your target. I have a policy of if you pull it you tank it. There are aggro meters built in to the interface and each person should be watching these, not just the tanks.

It's just as much their responsibility to use skills effectively as it is yours. That's what the meters next to your names are for. If they're spamming enmity building techniques while you're trying to sustain hate, they're not paying attention.

If you're having to chase mobs, that means the people in question are kiting it away or just already too far for your techniques to pull back. They need to stay still and close so you can flash them back. It's a group effort.

Also what the people below me say. They've clearly had more practice than I.

Don't know what level you are, but you can distribute your enmity combo on multiple mobs by tabbing or through quick target cycling. So for example let's say there are three mobs.

Mob [1], Mob [2], Mob [3]

Shield Lob primary target [1] on pull.

Fast Blade on Mob [1], Savage Blade (Enmity Bonus) on Mob [1].

Throw in a flash.

then you can tab around and see if any of the DPS are ignoring your markings. Let's say Archer is shooting [3].

You can Fast Blade [1], then Savage [3] and change targets.

This becomes easier when you get Rage of Halone because you can just Halone right afterwards.

If a mob peels, you can also Provoke and Shield Lob.

Distributed damage like Fire II and Quick Nock can be held with Flash in between enmity combos.

Try rotating the target you're actually hitting/comboing on. Do a Fast Blade>Savage Blade on every enemy in the group, and then return to your main target.

Then i guess they have to use single targeted spells more often. I don't know about magic DPS but i think most of the time AOE skills are much weaker than single targeted skills.
