Vanity gear system. ETA? (AF gear seems weak, but I don't wanna lose this look)

At level 50 people are already qq'ing about players trying to use their AF sets, saying they can't meet the DPS/tanking check bosses wearing it, and that they need other gear.

I'm honestly pretty surprised as this, and also at the fact that our AF has no materia slots to help keep it relevant/add some customization options to it.

So with all that going on, im honestly VERY curious about when the vanity system is gonna be coming into place, as I refuse to simply lose my dragoon identity in exchange for higher numbers, like I had to in FFXI.

i laugh at this, AF gear got a HUGE boost between 1.0 and now. it's better than my old double melded armor was, and i did the old endgame dungeons in that stuff.

I commend you for your ballerness, and admire your ability to do that. However, im starting to see people saying they're just leaving teams when they see people joining in their AF armor, because it's an auto loss. :/

That's not really even the point of the thread tho. It's more about when the vanity system is coming in, and the reason above was simply my personal reason for wishing it to be sooner rather then later.

I remember Yoshi talking about vanity slots, he said that its a possibility in a future update but not at the current time due to the fact that they would have to implement a whole new system for each pair of clothing or something of the sort. I agree I would like to wear something different than what the scholar looks like, yet still get the stats etc.

No, he originally planned to have it in at launch, but they ran out of time. Most recent news from Yoshi-P is that the vanity system will be in in the first major update. Can't remember which Live letter it was from though, sorry.

There's no technical difficulty with it, just didn't have time to implement it.

In reply to Goromaia, that may be out of date information.

My memory is of Yoshida bragging about a system they were developing with that intent. It had a pretty esoteric name though.. gosh I wish I could remember it. Translated it came out as something like 'paper doll' or something but..

Anyway I'm fairly certain he said an aesthetic override set was a higher priority than that, but I wish to high heaven I could remember the dates and terminology he gave. It doesn't help that the posts were on the now-closed beta forums.
