ff14 updater system
The patch thing when you boot up final fantasy 14 to update , i had alot of problems with it when ff14 first launched , some of the bigger updates took hours upon hours to download
Is the current patcher the best for now or could it be better , is it just me that had issues with it before ?
Its ok atm but still slowish, saying that getting 370 kbs now , probley fastest it gone in a fair while.
Edit -its improved since launch, i guess i just worrying if there ever a real big patch update in future.

I had some problems with the recent one, perhaps because I'm linked to a different router. In any case, the speed was at 300+ kbs for a little while, then suddenly dropped to 5 kbs and slowly crept upwards, and then after a minute or so, it stopped downloading.
But after a while I found a solution. Whenever it went to 0 kbs and stopped downloading, I quit the updater and restarted it. Then it continued from where I last was and added another 5% before it stopped. I kept going like that, and after 30 min it was fully patched.

I think SE needs to add a direct download option, say for example if your download speed drops below 50 kB/s it switches over to direct download.

I think you guys should open your ports it took me 10-15mins to download the game when you have ports open. without ports open took me 1hour just to get 22%

You can update the game via a torrent instead of using the actual updater. All you have to do is the following:
1. Download a bittorent client like Utorrent
2. Go to Start menu > Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy 14 > Downloads > FFXIV > 48eca647
3. Then you open up the meta file in the utorrent client.
4. Once it is done downloading you take the file you downloaded and place it in the patch folder I believe (I could be wrong about this last step but im pretty sure thats what you do.
NOTE: This is much faster than using the actual updater.

well, I downloaded PFPortChecker, and it did confirm that the ports that need to be open aren't, unfortunately, I still can't access my router to open the ports

It is incredibly frustrating to me to see my upload consistently 5 or 6x faster than my download speed. Of course that's only during the times that I actually am downloading at all. Sometimes, like for 30 sec every hour I will get a decent download speed, only to have it get eaten up by the upload speed again. I don't mind uploading at all, but I had to have uploaded about 20 times more MB than I have downloaded by now.

It goes pretty fast for me with every update. If you arent behind a firewall or have port restrictions on your end, then it is your ISP doing it to you. Maybe even possible anti-virus software is slowing it down. And possibly your wireless settings if you are using that.

Regardless of solutions, SE Should provide a direct download, We should not be responsible for providing their players updates to their game. (thus we are using our bandwidth that we pay for, to provide other players the update as SE want to save munies) It also restricts some audiences; for example those who live in University accommodation/dorms, they will most likely have restrictions on p2p traffic. No matter what you try you aint getting it downloaded if that is the case.
Also Opening Ports is not always the optimal solution for some due to ISP and Region difficulties, in personal experience I've tried everything suggested/known to man, and had zero change on any of my patches, being able to run smoothly at 300kbs, sometimes 1.8mb/s, sometimes 1kb/s and then the lovely 0kb/s for hours. It is as random as <something really random>.
But one solution that is optimal is Google.

Did you guys just completely ignore me? I mean I clearly gave you a solution to your downloading problem.
