What gives the chocobo exp?

Is it only from fighting? Anything else give him exp? It is a he?

This is a good question. I have a lot about the Chocobo but have not done much research about it yet.

I too am curious about this hope someone who knows posts soon. Not there yet but hope to be soonish.
