IIRC there will be mod/addon support roughly 6 months into launch, why couldn't it be sooner!
Addons generally help take out the issues people get annoyed with.
Whos looking forward to addons?

Yeah it'll be pretty cool!
Personally, Im looking forward to seeing some nice looking UI mods. The game already looks nice, but hey, some FF themed ability bars would be really cool!
Perhaps a cast bar animation that looks like the ATB system in 13?
And I know some people don't like the idea, but a damage meter will be cool. Personally, I just like to use it to see how well I'm playing a class, and how I can be more efficient.
Cosmetic changes could be a lot of fun, I can see people wanting their bars and such to even appear retro like 4-7 style bars and such.
Things I'll try to make/get when add-on API is released:
- A stamina/atb bar so I don't have to look to the hotbar to know when my skills are up.
- An addon so the hotbrs I desire hide when not used for a certain amount of time, just like the 1.0 hotbar.
- Inventory list like in 1.0/XI.
- A function to maximice/minmze the chat window like in XI.
I'm pretty sure these will be made by people hat have more experience than I do with making add-ons, but I'll try none the less.
I wanna change the font colours on the mobs npc's and characters.. they are to bright man to bright.. When in big fights (FATE) all u c is shiny letters everywhere :P
Cosmetic stuff would be ok. Hopefully nothing that interfere's with gameplay though. WoW-like add'ons that play the game for you should be avoided like the plague.
Yeah, would have had liked to see something earlier, maybe even during the beta phase. I plan on building something that will allow spotify integration so you can control it while having the game up, as opposed to having to alt-tab constantly.
I know it's going to be a lot of work and be a huge pain, so I would have had liked to start work on it now and get it out in 6 months as opposed to what will essentially be waiting a year now (but hopefully less)
Typical ignorant post about add-ons stemming from a fear of not understanding how add-on works and a misconstrued view about how add-ons actually affect the game.
If you knew anything about development, you'd know that releasing add-on tools (an 'API' is what they call it) to users would enable the development to focus on non-UI/cosmetic related changes and could tackle much more prevalent issues such as animation-based attacks; lag that makes it so you can't hit mobs; the balancing of melee vs. ranged classes which is completely out-of-whack. I hope you get the idea but saying that add-ons are useless and hurt the game is ignorant and makes you look an idiot.
