This is what I think!
I wanted everyone to know that there is a simple solution to the problem at hand for people that want to actually log on and actually play. The only way SE can ratify the situation at hand without buying more servers is to implement a program that boots people off the system if they have been idle over 1 hour or more in-game, letting others play that will not be idle or afk. Only solution I really see Square Enix. I hope your listening!

Yeah... 15-20 minute AFK timer would, at the very least, help some congestion. But this has already been stated several times on the technical forums.
-
Sorry but because of the sheer number, not even that would handle it.
-
Or take 30 minutes to go into the system and increase the viable population of a server by 50%.
SquareEnix closes all other servers and opens up four new ones, four new ones fill up, all servers are down due to NA/EU server list being down, nobody can log in.
SquareEnix laughs as we all try to play on NA/EU servers as they count their money.

It would work!
I say it would work because the amount of people that go to school, go to work, and others things is higher than you might imagine. People have to make a living to play right? I mean not atm, but soon? So, they alleviate the problem by staying logged in till they get home, and yes SE knows this. I know so many people that do this, so they can get right on the game soon as they get home which in my book is bullshit!

But since a large percent would actually be playing at the same time......it wouldn't help as much as you think.
The only times today when I have managed to successfully log in was early morning.
It's got a lot to do with timeframes.
Also.....there are a lot of people who have bought it but have yet to be able to make even a single character yet because of the restrictions.
Auto-logout for AFK would not alleviate the issue on it's own. It IS needed. But the problem is on too large a scale for that to fix everything on it's own.

great idea...Shhh checking if they are listening or even care.

Why does everybody who posts about "buying more servers is expensive" think that they have to physically buy a new machine? News flash: All modern hosting is done on giant server farms that run virtual machines and can allocate resources as needed to specific tasks without purchasing any additional hardware.
If you don't know what a virtual machine is, Google it.
It shouldn't even be that difficult to clone an entire server, character data and all.

This idea is both new and radical. To celebrate, I'm going to wear a bandana on my head. Because it's new. And radical! /Leonardo
