Ok so I have a keyboard for my PS3 (lucky!) so the screen capture function works pretty much the same. Press "Scroll Lock" to hide the UI then "Print Screen" to capture the image. Ok well cool. Here are my problems.
1. I only got this to work by switching my screen capture settings to standard JPG in the menus.
2. It only worked once.
3. I keep getting "Screen shot failure."
4. Where can I go to find the one screen shot that worked?

With your PS3 controller you can do L1 Select and then L1 Start to take a screenshot. I could only take one too though. :/
Ok well I found out that there is some sort of cool down on the screen shots which is why it gave me a "screen shot failure" you have to wait about ten seconds at least before you can take another one. So if you mess up a pose or something you can't just spam it and hope to get it right. :P (oops)
I still don't know where they are saved though or how to at least look at them.
It's not a "cooldown", it simply takes that long to generate and save to PS3's hard drive - you can actually see the hard drive light flashing during that period. And indeed - pictures are saved under Photo section / pictures at XMB ;)
