Objective or Goal of FFXIV?

What is the goal of this game?

To do the quests/level then craft ect...?


Currently i only finished Mission:Souls Gone Wild, and 5 minutes into the mission i am already bored the hell out. Spending 90% of time running back and forth, 9% talking and watching the cut scenes, and 1% actually doing something fun.

The battle system suck very unrealistic at least in my opinion.

I am a Diablo 2 fan. I like just how simple the game is, little time waste on level but more on fun.

So can anyone answer me what is the point or goal of FFXIV?

The story quests get better, and there are quests for each guild once you've attained a high enough rank in that discipline. I'm not sure realism is what they're going for in the combat system, but I will say it doesn't suck in a party if you're doing a challenging fight. The game is way more fun with friends, so it's best to find a linkshell and meet people.

The point of FFXIV is to embark on an adventure. That sounds similar to Diablo 2, any FF title, or any other action/adventure. Except XIV is in the MMO genre. Have you played a Bethesda title like Oblivion or Fallout 3? They're huge! Give me a horse and I'll explore every nook and cranny. Now think of those worlds but on an even grander scale.

So, in general, FFXIV is targeted for players seeking social events mixed with adventure. I'm having fun just going into high level territory and sometimes challenging myself with the monsters therein.

same as any other mmorpg I guess just have fun? Most my friends are into grinding to get high lvl's I prefer to just craft. FFXI was my favorite.. Part of me will always be in VanaDeil...Who would have ever thought a little old lady in PA would become such a GAMER????

I sort of understand where Crossline is coming from---though I guess I enjoy the talking and exploration points a little more thoroughly.

Still, I just finished Souls Gone Wild, and the game just kind of dumps me off too soon on my own, with absolutely no continuing quest line and no real objective.

The questy prologue is great. Yeah, I can tell there is some kind of darkness unfolding over Twelvewood, but my character seems to have no real reason to even exist at all. And it's not like in FFXI, where I know I can always go to the gate house and see if a new mission is available whenever I'm ready to move on. But here, I don't have the slightest clue what to do....or when, which is highly frustrating.

I don't feel like Eorzea is the kind of place I can create my own reason to be there, because frankly the game's systems seem overly complicated, backwards, and demotivational. Not at all interested in playing to craft or rank up, or even to make friends, any more than absolutely necessary. Didn't come here intending to bash the game, but my point is I just want to play for the story....but the way the game progresses, I'm left bewildered and wondering---what in the hell do I do next to make the story go forward, ffs??? Or is there an actual finished story in this game at all?

Someone please tell me what to do next!

I agree that the game could give you a better idea of what to do next. That's something the development team is working to improve for new players. But I started my character several months ago, so I'm not sure how -- or even whether -- it's improved.

There is a main storyline quest, and there is line of quests for each job. New storyline quests, job quests, and leves become available as you level up. So you have to level up to open new chapters in the tale. Here's a post from the developers listing the levels at which you'll get new quests of each type. (Link in text. Scroll down to "Why is leveling classes important?")

When a new main storyline quest becomes available, your NPC Linkshell -- a little circle on the top right of your screen -- will start flashing. Open your main menu, click on "NPC Linkpearl," and you'll get instructions on what to do next.

For your class quests, you'll need to hit the appropriate level, then go to the class guildhall and speak with an NPC there. So, for example, when you hit level 20 Gladiator, you can go to the Gladiator's guildhall in Uldah and speak with an NPC there. They'll give you a quest.

$43 for this game, and since i am a long time FF/Square Enix Fan, I will hold the game a bit longer to see if there's any new interesting development before i uninstall it.

Right now FFXIV is exactly like the first year of FFXI (computer release only, if you didn't play then it doesn't apply to you), its got boring jobs, and the game isn't balanced and the main motivation is leveling.

I don't seem to remember it that way, but I never experienced the game at JP release since NA didn't get a release until RoZ was out. While they did change a few things around the time of NA release (like the fishing system) I thought that I had bought a very polished and complete game...which is why I was so surprised at what a train wreck FFXIV seems to be. I don't recall hearing about XI being so bad in Japan as to call for such dramatic actions as canning the game's entire chain of leadership, but I suppose I can imagine that it was a bit less polished than the game it had become by the time I bought it in the US.

In any case, it seems like they are not unwilling to completely gut this game if they have to, so I will be looking forward to improvements and will probably be sticking around at least long enough to finish the story, perhaps longer if it seems like it has improved enough.

I would also note, as far as the story goes, and at least on the English side of things, I'm seeing a ton more aberrations in spelling, grammar, and diction, and lots of stylistic inconsistencies in the writing. They're too numerous to bother submitting as bug reports or whatever, it seems to me like the editors really ought to just comb through the script better. Also what happened to the Tarutarus always speaking in alliterations and rhymes? :(

Agreed. I played FF11 since the beginning and it was pretty much party grinding, I didn't know there was even a story.

With this game it was so bland since beta i had to quit..personally, I don't think the original team had a clear direction, just a bunch of group ideas that didn't pan out.

The new overhaul is more promising, but it's pretty much starting over.. so a polished game will take a while.

Objective (opinion): Opening Story -> Grind -> Little story -> Grind -> Grind -> Mid Story -> Grind -> Ending story
-> Grind -> End game NM hunting / Dungeons / Gearing Up
