Botany advice?

I'm a 17 conji, and just picked up botany.
The people online said I have to activate the botany tool in order to go chop wood, so I did.
Now I am completely naked, have only 46 hitpoints, and no spells.

I am supposed to wander around the woods now and not be able to defend or heal myself when I get aggro?

How is this supposed to work?

It would make sense to have my conji skills carry over. Why did I have to strip down to my undies in order to chop some wood?

Thats how ALL gather professions work i'm afraid.
You will get gathering specific clothing that makes you better at it. As well as skills.

All gather nodes early on...are in areas you wont agro monsters. Higher level areas might..but by then you will learn a stealth ability.

Also...if you create gear sets...you can toggle back to your main classes at any time. So even if you do agro...you can fight them off. (disclaimer...switching back to a combat class has all your combat skills on cooldown for like 30 seconds or something)

That seems rather silly though. It defies logic. Why can't I just carry an axe with me? Why am I suddenly dumb and can't remember any spells?

You were naked because level 1 botanist can't equip your level 17 conjuger stuff.

Gathering classes get a skill around level 10 to hide from aggressive monsters (it slows you down though), so you don't need your conjuger spells to defend yourself

I shouldn't be able to wear level 17 botanist gear. I am a level 17 conji, and should still be allowed to wear that gear. The logic behind this is lost.

stealth is level 8 hides from mobs but reduces ur movement speed greatly :3

Botanist is not a profession, but its own class. If you equip an axe, you are not a Conjurer anymore, but a Botanist. Buy some Level 1-15 Gathering gear and equip it.
Gathering classes are not supposed to even get aggro. You'll get the Stealth spell later with which you can't be targeted by enemies.
