Why are you moaning about server congestion when your game doesnt even have afk boot timers? People waiting in queue for people that just forgot/refuse to log out when they're done playing in order to reserve their spot in the server?
I mean that strikes me as one of the most obvious measures to help deal with these problems. Hardly a cure-all mind you, but it would definitely help.

I agree. This is insane that I haven't been able to get on my server of choice for 2 days now but afk'ers can sit there all weekend and essentially lock me out.

Too many of these threads around, JFYI. Back in FFXI, there is no automatic kick timer neither was there in 1.0 (early) because of Bazaar, players had to stay logged in to bazaar their items. It might be an oversight at this point because of the newly implemented AH, but most likely if they can solve the server issue they will implement AFK removal because it's necessary for Bazaar culture.

Not forcing logoff of AFK players is sheer stupidity, even if the game was functioning 100%. It was the dumbest part of FFXI. There is no reason for it. Trade functions can be setup for offline functionality, event calendars can be used, messages can be logged and redisplayed to players, etc. Having a substantial portion of the player population AFK ruins the feel of an MMO. One more item in the long list of MMO basics everyone expects.

Notbeing auto kicked was a great feature in ffxi. Bazaars allowed you to personally sell stuff. Also since HNMs were on timers you could run to the store without worrying about having to log back in. Also pretty much every MMO has bots to it which allow them to stay logged in. So people will stay logged in no matter what.Quote:

^^ agreed. Why take up precious log in slots with people not playing in order to make the world "feel" alive. When log ins are restricted, it is a bad idea to allow people to log in and go afk. I am believeing that the only people not for implementing afk boot timers, are the ones that leave their toon afk. Don't try to church it up with old mmo theology, "oh they had bazaars', "HNM's are on a timer", unless you can come up with a reason to not enable AFK timers which trumps the reason to implement them, please listen and do not talk.
