Uses for Topaz carbuncle (or other tank pet) in dungeons.

I remember some threads claiming that Topaz carbuncle makes tanks useless in dungeons, But after toto-rak with a topaz out myself, I disagree.

You should think of Topaz Carbuncle THM's or CNJ's Sleep. Don't let it attack the Tanks main target, but sic it on something else. It will keep it off the healer, and soak damage. It doesn't matter too much if it ends up getting killed, because it's just a magic spell! It will also allow you to safely attack carbuncles target, because you and other DPS are highly unlikely to pull the target off of carbuncle if it gets it first. I also noticed that carbuncle cant really take aggro from the tank if the tank gets it first, and actually does what hes supposed to do to keep aggro.

I had a fun time crowd controlling with my topaz carbuncle.

Havn't gotten the topaz carbuncle yet, but it sure sounds like fun. SMN is such a fun job, hehe.

Topaz Carbuncle makes the last boss of H. Manor a joke.

When the 2 witches + ahriman spawn just have the topaz go around and tag them so the tank doesn't have to move the boss.

We did the first and second dungeon with 2 thm and 2 acn wish topez carby no problems no deaths

Over the weekend with all the Server Issues; when our tank dropped out of the instance before the first trash pull; a ARN asked if he could try using his Topaz pet. Healer said we should give it a try.

Not only did we clear the dungeon; we had no deaths; we had no problem with AoE aggro; and even made the boss right a joke.

Pet seemed to be immune to AoE damage; made everything Tank n Spank. As for the ARN; he managed to control his pet really good; if his pet lost aggro during a AoE pull, he'd have his pet attack it instantly and pull it back.


--My main in WoW being a Hunter; and having to 'have' to pet-tank in a dungeon/raid, I can say that Little Topaz is way more OP than any pet in WoW.. lol

I've used Topaz Carby-cun in this manner as well in dungeons. It makes for a great off-tank and usually lasts long enough to kill off the adds before adds have a chance to sap it's vitality. Even if it does die, you can just instantly start summoning Ruby Carby-cun while all your dots tick away at the main assist target.

But the opposite has been true as well, as MrDrairon pointed out. I've used it to hold the boss while the MT tanks the adds for the party to quickly kill them off, then allow the tank to blast enmity at the boss till little Carby-cun passes away. Then the boss instantly targets the MT, allowing a smooth death-free transition between adds and main assist target.

I main tanked Satasha with Topaz and it was awesome. The main thing that needs changing is how if you send in your pet ahead of you everything agros the master. Where is the logic in this? I have simply started running into groups of mobs and spamming Topaz to use his AoE attack to get everything off me.

In the lower level dungeons I've been in, Topaz has made for a great tank if the original tank has dc'd and you're windmilling through trash. I imagine that it's role will decrease once tanks gear up for higher level dungeons, but it will still be a steady off-tank for adds.

4 Arcanist can run Satasha with no problem. I pulled the mobs and when they linked each Arcanist had carby pull the links off of me. We all focused on the mob that I pulled while their carby’s tanked the links. Most of the time we only had 3 mobs attacking us, so we had the extra carby attacking my mob. We then moved to the next link. When we arrived at Denn the Orcatoothed we sent all 4 carby’s in and they man handled him. We were able to kill and didn't worry about any of the grates or extra mobs. We used 3 Topaz carbys and 1 emerald for extra cure. Planning on running Tam Tara Deepcroft next. ;)
