Game temporarily freezes then returns with low framerate

I ran into this issue 3 times now...once in open beta and twice in early access.

Basically, I can be doing anything at all when my screen will suddenly turn black. I dont lose any sound and am able to hear everything going on around me but I just cant see anything. Shortly after (maybe 3-5 seconds), the picture will return but my framerate will be 9-15fps. When things are running as they should, I get 50-60fps so this is quite a drop.

The "fix" is to alt-tab out of the game, wait a few seconds, and alt-tab back in. That returns everything to normal.

I thought it might have to do something with the "limit framerate when client is inactive" option and that maybe my PC was, for whatever reason, thinking that client was inactive and restricting the framerate because of that so I turned the framerate limit to "none" and unchecked the "limit framerate when client is inactive" box but that didnt seem to help.

Anyone run into something similar and know of a fix? Any other ideas?

Do you get a message from windows afterwards..... NVIDIA Card users had driver problems with the game throughout the entire beta process, I fixed it in phase 4 with a driver update

Nah, no messages at all.

I am wondering if running it in windowed or borderless windowed will help any. Might be the next thing I try.
