I'm not sure, really. I'm not even sure which ones counted for the award. I saw Elder Scrolls Online, The Division, Destiny, Warhammer 40K, The Crew, Titanfall... who knows? For better or worse, at the end of the day, it's less about the competition and more about the fact that you can add it to the game's resume.

There are a lot of people who judge games superficially, and there are a lot of people who will baselessly say that XIV is unsalvageable based on V1. Perhaps this is something that might make a few people say, "Wow, they improved it that much? I might as well give it another try..."

Didn't ARR get 'most hyped/exited to play' or something like it award last year too?

it's a nice badge, but it creates lots of hype, and easily leads to disappointments.
Beta forum is drowning in fanboys, whining about everything about the trailers, and the game too, cause they *expected more*
If it's not GCD, lack of gathering mini games, then it's DRG using buster sword, or Lighting Returns being shitty, and XV being the nail in the coffin, for FF franchise as a whole, cause it's not turn-based.
