Sooo about Retainers?

I know a ton of news has been released regarding retainers, but I still haven't seen anywhere if they will still be used in a "Market Wards" kinda way. I think there was mention of it, but also mention of an Auction House-esque system as well

If there's something I missed, sorry for being unaware. I just really don't want to run into this situation again: Market Wards Fiasco

Well the NDA has been lifted on Gridania, which is one of the locations that all takes place... Though I dunno if it means we could talk about all that too.

But anyhow, retainers as implemented so far didn't have the added functionality that's been discussed in Letters yet and I understand that they may also take a lesser role in the "AH system" than they did in the Beta.

So I think it's a wait-and-see until Beta Phase 3. Best thing to do is make sure you're signed up and go have a look yourself when it goes live!

Buying happened through an actual AH ("Market Boards"), not by roaming halls and checking dozens of retainer bazaars. I bought and sold stuff, and if there are still Market Wards, I didn't see them.

In my experience with LotRO's housing instances, there is no random chatter as there aren't very many people in a given housing instance at the same time. That experience is from a zone with 30 houses (inc. 4x "FC" houses). I've only ever seen friends I've arranged to meet in housing instances. I have no idea as to the number of houses per instance in ARR, but even if there were 50 or 100 per instance, it's statistically unlikely that there are going to be very many people in your particular instance at the same time as you - and because of that, it'll be unlikely that anyone will be shouting or saying stuff around you as *they* won't expect anyone to be able to hear them.

Anyway, if seeing /shouts and /says really annoys you, filter them or switch to a chat window that doesn't display them.

Retainers still exist, but the ward areas themselves do not at this time. Retainers are still used, but you do not ever need to stroll through a mass of inanimate bodies.
