Bait and switch

Last year I was robbed of my chance to become a Legacy member when the program was ended prematurely. I had previously contacted the support team and was assured that as of July 31 2012 I had plenty of time to renew my subscription and be eligible for the legacy program. On September 11 2012 it was announced that services would be suspended as of September 29 2012. I would have become a legacy member in early October 2012. Under U.S. law this situation would qualify as bait and switch which is illegal. I have attempted to contact support several times regarding the matter. I do not want this to become a legal matter as I love Square Enix and all it has done for the gaming industry. I just want the legacy status I was robbed of. Is there any way this could be made possible?

Robbed you say? I think you should experience a guy holding you at gunpoint asking for your possessions before using such strong words.

Anyway, the only possible way you would have qualified in July is if you had picked the 90 day subscription option before that was made unavailable.

If I recall some people bought 30day subs in bulk with Crysta and got legacy that way as well.

@OP: As I understood it as long as you paid for 90 days before the deadline you got legacy. So if you were paying month by month thats why you missed out. If however you had bought 2-3 months in advance then you wouldn't have.

So I don't think the support team was wrong. You had 6 or 7 weeks in which to purchase your 90 days and qualify for legacy. (Yes even though there weren't 90 days of 1.0 service left)

I could be wrong but to be honest I had legacy status before I even knew what it was, so I never really bothered to read the terms and conditions needed to qualify in depth.

I have been robbed at gun point. I have also had my car and home broken into. So yes I know what it's like to be robbed. By the time I had contacted support, the option to pay for multi month subs had been removed and yet when i contacted them this was there reply:
Dear Customer,

Regarding your request for account support. Please find your answer below.

Users with service accounts that have paid for at least 90 cumulative days of subscriptions between January 6, 2012 and the start of version 2.0 beta testing are eligible. Square Enix will automatically notify you if you are eligible and you may also confirm your eligibility by using the Square Enix Account Management System.

Currently there is no official date as to when version 2.0 beta testing will begin.

I did say a few days back that soon the beta release date is said every non legacy would be making a topic. On how SE screw them over or how they should be in beta for being in alpha.

@pyrious Did you check your SE account to see if you have a Legacy account? But really i don't think you have bait and switch as you said i think you just out of luck. There really noting you can do about it if you did not get legacy it's pretty much done sorry :(

Also Beta testing start Feb 25 look at the homepage it tell you :) they starting to send email this week.


You quit on 10/21/2011 and start playing again from 8/21/2012 to 9/14/2012 looking at your char history. You could have just payed and not really done anything with your char. But from the look of it it seem you would have never got legacy.

It's too bad that you didn't manage to get legacy, but if that reply from support is what made you think you had enough time then it isn't a bait and switch. Nowhere in that does it say that YOU are guaranteed legacy. It says that those who subscribed in time will.

The legacy programme was well advertised, SE sent out emails about the campaign, it was all over lodestone, people were talking about it all over the forums. Even the gaming sites were reporting about the campaign. You had plenty of opportunity to sign up but left it till near enough the end of August to do so. You missed out, you werent robbed. The message you got from SE states clearly you had to have 90 days subscription from Jan 6th onwards. Everyone knew the billing period was coming to an end, that was well signposted too. Yes it sucks that you missed getting legacy status, but really...what are you gonna be loosing out on? A chocobo skin, a slight reduction in subs, and a few extra char slots you probably wouldnt use. Its not that big a deal really. Youll probably still get into beta at some point if you applied too.
