Will gamepad function the same in ARR?

Once we get gamepad support in phase 2, will there default function for the special ff14 controllers? I ask this since I just bought the snakebyte controller and saw that it has its own default settings in the game.

Edit also the snakebyte controller is the official was the final fantasy 14 1.0 controller

The gamepad UI will be completely different, what with the Cross Hotbar and all that nifty stuff. I don't think anybody can make a bet at this time

Controls probably won't be exactly the same but the controller you have should be perfectly fine.

Otherwise, you could be adventurous and learn to use mouse+keyboard effectively.

Pfft, screw mouse and keyboard. I can more than use them effectively (especially since I have Razer). I prefer controller.

FF XIV would have it own controller default setting, which you can change in the ingame controller setting config (I hope it is ingame and not an outgame config.exe again).

I plan to make pseudo support in phase 1 with motionjoy, no place for kb mouse on my couch :(

The controller UI was in the blog pics. It looked like you had 3 sets of 4 buttons. I am guessing the 4 face buttons on a PS controller and L2 and R2 switch between your other button sets.

Probably will control different then 1.0 since its almost a total redesign.

In one of the many interviews Yoshida mentioned how the Cross Hotbar works. Essentially if you press one of the trigger buttons, it brings up the hotbar, when it's up if you press the corresponding button (arrows, triangle, square, circle, x) you execute that command. Each different trigger button also brings up a different hotbar so with two button presses you execute a command. There is also a button to cycle through bars if i'm not wrong.

This gives you access, at minimum, 16 different actions with the press of two buttons that are very comfortably placed.

I think they also said all of the old controls would still be available...though I suspect the new way will be much better

Yoshi was seen testing with a Windows/xbox controller, including colored button indicators for it on screen. The special edition one uses the Windows controller layout. (if you are referign to the Japanese showing of the GameS one).

I imagine it will change the UI to fit various controllers, but some may have a default layout since not all follow the X B A Y RB RT LB LT format. (PC Side). Many Third Party ones do now.

THe PS3 version will of course be specialized to it's buttons.
