SE making a mistake not waiting for ps4?

So the ps4 is supposed to launch this year.

All the specs should be reviled on the 20th.

Back when 1.0 launched, it would of been good to have a ps3 version.... but now I just don't see why they don't wait till next year and release it on the ps4, or even at launch to help drive sales.

Sure the ps2 is still around and the ps3 will have life after the ps4 is out, but you can get so much more out of the system if you wait 6 months max?

The engine is highly scalable so if they decide in the future a PS4 or PS Orbis port (what-ever they're going to call it) is reasonable, they can still do it. Think of it like a low budget PC vs a high budget PC in the end. Just because a new system is coming out doesn't mean the console is dead.

The PS3 client is probably about as far as the PC client at this point, so there's no point in not releasing for the PS3. Plenty people won't be buying a PS4 until their favourite game series shows up on it (personally, I won't buy a PS4 until there's a Final Fantasy game on it ;))

Also, if the PS4 is really coming out this year, Squenix will most likely already have a devkit, and so it's not unthinkable that there'll be a PS4 version fairly quickly after the PS4 releases.

It will take a long time for PS4 to overtake PS3 market.

There's no point in waiting, SE can make a PS4 client in the future which will be closer to PC version.

Yoshi-P already addressed this a while ago. I'll try to find the article, but he said something along the lines of Zezlar said. The PS4 obviously is obviously going to be stronger than the PS3 but still weaker than a PC.. so I don't see why these guys who went to school for this stuff couldn't make a PS4 version without issue lol

PS4 is subject to delays for its release... PS3 is out now. IMO SE is doing the right thing.

There's almost no reason to support the PS4 and Sony will likely take hits on the PS4 for awhile much like the PS3 release. It took developers years before they even fully utilized the PS3, there's still plenty of life left in it, especially MMO wise.

They may be the only MMO on the block to be on the PS4 for awhile, but I know most won't be dropping $500+ on that system after the PS3 launch...but who knows. They're making no mistake, if anything, the only mistake SE is making is trying to target EVERYONE when there's so many well established options out there already.

The ps4 might not be backward compatible either.

A dedicated gaming machine can do very well with high end pc's because it doesn't sit behind a OS. I have no doubt if they pushed ARR to the ps4 it could rival any computer now. (not comparing to sli/xfire)

If it is backward compatible then I can see this not being a big deal until ps3 limitations hold down any future patches/expansions. And they could always re release the game on the ps4 if it did really well i guess.

I didn't think the ps4 would make it by this year, but with the window so close I wonder if SE gave it some serious thought.

Well developers get dev kits for consoles long before consoles are publicly released, so there's a good chance if they ever did decide to go PS4 they already have the plans in motion.

SE pretty much has its reputation to uphold more than anything at this point. Yoshi-P said that they were going to release this on PS3, so they will make good on that. Besides, they need the mass amount of PS3 players that have been waiting for this game since its announcement to bolster this game's numbers.
