Hoping an API will become available for ARR

I do a lot of web dev and app development and have been getting excited about the idea of building something related to FFXIV:ARR but would really need an API to make something both cool and of value.

Is anything going to be made available?

Would love to see APIs for the following:
- Characters
- Gear
- Auction House / Retainer
- Mail
- Achievements
- Item Pricing
- Statistics

Anything that I'm missing?

All the current libraries are based on screen-scraping, yuk.

Suggestions by Mjollnir:
- Live chat for Linkshells and Free Companies
- Each city's /sh channel.
- Notification of sale for items

I would love to see those on the website however I am not sure if that statistics is a good idea. It's really SE's secret thing (unless your character.)

I am not sure what you mean by item pricing.

I say YES to Auction House, I would love to see SE to make something similar to FFXIAH.com.

Really, I don't need a big WOW on the website, just make something really useful.

Now... This thread is hard to understand and I also am a programmer. You would need to make more details. :o

As for item pricing, it would be nice to retrieve the last sell price for an item, how many are listed for sell, the lowest and highest prices.

All the current technologies for retrieving count data and progression is done through screen scraping the forums which I wouldn't want to do for anything I make as it's bad practice.

As you mentioned mail, I'd like to also propose live chat to/from your character's Free Company (when not logged in). And perhaps the /sh channel in each city.

And the market functionality to include some kind of notification of sale.

I guess I'm thinking along the same lines that Guildwork and FFXIAH did for FFXI.

This would help greatly to keep track on some things ingame while on the field. Why do you think games like Eve online are still so popular after all those years ?
The answer is simple - you can interact with them even without PC, you can contact people ingame with a simple smartphone app. and you can do so much more without logging in to the game.

What keeps many of us with one title after hundreds of hours, often isn't the game itself, but the bond with friends we created while playing that game. And this is something, that needs to be considered while creating online games.

Turning to subject, I think we could use external ingame chat (so API for that is a must) above all that has been said till now.

I agree, it's going to be very important for functionality like this to be implemented to help the game succeed in the log run.

/shout does not cover an entire city. It may cover an area but not an entire city.

Why hasn't anyone discussed adding specific channels (leveling, quests, misc, etc) for region wide communication? I would think this would be a near must.

If you talking about app for smart phones then yoshi-p said he want to release one for ffxiv.arr but it may be delay. He want one that you can buy/sell item and look up information on price and i think he also want for you to see what people talking in your freecompany/linkshell maybe talk not sure about talking part interviews are never very clear on that one.

He also want a app for chocobo one that you can take your baby egg from the game to your cell phone take care of him while you away from ps3/computer then port him back to the game but not sure if this one would happen,.
