That text is actually from an old interview from November 1, 2011

I think as the article says, It's more likely to come out for smartphones than the PS Vita. Android and iPhone have much bigger markets than the Vita. And I don't think you'll be actually playing the game more than preforming remote functions that are more or less 2D screens N64 esque graphic representations of the game.
Probably, your house, chocobo stable, auction house results and inventory/retainer management! Maybe, item database and NPC location data you can look up to plan your next nights adventures ;). Feed your pet and as mentioned. Chocobo raising! :D
PS Vita first launched in December 17, 2011. And this article was made in November 1 2011. I wouldn't expect to hear anything about Vita that early. lol
That's referring to the smartphone apps it was said ages ago we will get, an app to manage retainers, send mail, chat with your ls etc.
"The Vita came out a month after this interview!" So?
There's Apps on the vita, too. It works much like any smartphone or tablet. Something we knew long before it's release, and long before Yoshi-P joined the FFXIV team. Widening the options doesn't limit you to mobile devices boys and girls.
Okay I never thought of it that way, I forgot that the Vita could run apps on the console, which would make the Vita just likea smartphone. Regardless, it will most likely come out on iOS and Android first then get ported to Vita. But the Vita actually playing FFXIV:ARR the game? Unlikely.
There is a Dragon Quest X app for the 3DS, DQ X is also an MMO. There is no reason they couldn't do something similar with FF XIV and Vita, but doing anything for Vita is risky when it is selling so badly.
Why do you people focus so much on the dumb Vita? Just release an app (like the DQX one) for iOS and Android. You are far more likely to carry your mobile around with you that your Vita.
Honestly I'd like to see DQX for the Wii brought outside of the isolated Japanese market over ARR. I don't think DQX will be released on these shores unfortunately. *sigh*.
