I've seen this implemented in several recent games, and think it could be very useful. If there is a specific place you want to go that is not tied to a npc or quest, you can click or rightclick on the map to create a custom beacon. This will give you an "as the bird flies" arrow on your minimap to your custom destination.
Thoughts?

Back in my day, we didn't have any hand holding arrows guiding you to the place you told the game to direct you to. This game is casual enough as it is! [/sarcasm]
I'd like to see something like this actually. Hell, even the ability to place temporary markers on the minimap like you can in World of Warcraft to let party members know the the exact spot you're talking about would be nice. -

markers on map. good for zoning type of game like ffxi and ARR, in GW2 also have this, if you're in a PT, you can mark on your map, because when you zone you sometime can't see where is your PT members

Like in LOZ: Skyward Sword? The blue beacons that light up on the map? Yes, please. Even if it's not a shaft of light seen from afar, it'd be neat to know which direction to run on the mini map without opening the larger map each time. If they made it cross zone, you could see the general direction to run to hit the zone line you want.
