If the ability to add new characters isn't reactivated, would it be possible to open up the other cities' quest lines (and possibly other Grand Company quests) to existing characters? I feel like this shouldn't be a problem now that FFXIV 1.0 servers being up is in direct contradiction with the lore of 2.0. I'd really like to play through the other story missions from the other towns/Grand Companies but I only had one character at the time the servers went down.

I'd be fine with letting people switch companies.

With a penalty for desertion.

JP Rep replied to one of the forums where they asked if it was OK to delete their existing Lv50 character without losing their character at the time ARR is launched.
Rep said it wont affect the ARR so it's OK to delete your current character to start a new one.

Now although the rep said this and I'm sure 99.9% safe to do... I don't have the courage to delete my character... lol

Old news. They already said in 2.0 you can switch companies freely.
*Since you were a lowly recruit in the other 2 companies when you joined your's, you will still be a recruit when you join them. aka Private 3rd Class.
* Due to the Dalamud event being over, many quests tied to "pre-7th umbral era" are no longer accessable.
*If you switch back to your old grand company, you will hold the rank and seals you had when you left that old GC. The same works in reverse. (aka you can switch from Twin Adder to Immortal Flames and back again if you wish).
* GC specific gear like chocobos/barding and officer gear, special accessories are GC unique. If you are a mismatched GC they cannot be equipped.

In addition, your rank from your previous company will not be carried over, and instead you will begin from the lowest rank. Your old rank will be saved though, so it doesn't get lost.

Einzelheiten können sich natürlich noch ändern aber das oben genannte ist der aktuelle Plan.
