Is it possible to add a new character to play on the current servers while they are up? I'm a legacy account holder so I don't have to pay for additional characters. I'm asking because I don't want to play my main then feel like I'm losing levels when the new servers go up and character data is still what it was on last save day.
I wanted to start a new chara too to play through the first few quests of Ul'dah, but it seems we can't activate any new characters, just delete old ones and reroll in that slot if they're active already :/
For the actual version you had to pay for additional characters.
Only in ARR we don't have to pay for addtional characters. And that's for everyone - not only legacy members!
Right now playing FFXIV is completely free. But only those who had an active account at 30th September 2012 can play.
Since after that date it has been impossible to register new account, reactivate old accounts or add new characters to the account. That means if you don't have already a second character from before you won't be able to add it untill ARR.
Thanks for the clarification Junnichi. As it stands now reactivation for FINAL FANTASY XIV has been suspended. You'll need to wait until the servers come back up before you'll be able to reactivate character options and play. At this time we do not have an estimated time as to when this would occur but you'll want to keep an eye on the Lodestone and FINALFANTASYXIV.com for updates to this status. Thanks again.
