Because trading items to others to just get them to my alt is still driving me nuts. Any word on if this is in the works at all?
This topic is mostly to get the numbers up so that the devs. see that it's important to a lot of people to have. Atm, i don't do any mining, fishing or botany anymore because the trading items to my alt that does the crafting takes so long. Also increase the tradescreen please, 4 items at a time is really minimal.
Well, no need for a delivery BOX, but we can deliver messages and items using our Retainers. There could be a new selection called 'Mail delivery' or something. A person types the player's name they want to deliver it to and your retainer delivers it to that person's retainer, who will in turn have a new 'mail' tab on the exchange items list. The retainer will also tell you that you have new mail when you summon it or talk to it in the bazaar.
Easier to implement it into retainers than to add mail boxes all around the city, and is more real.
Latching the mail system onto the pre-existing retainer system ain't a bad idea.
I am fine with this as long as our retainer can carry more than 1 item at a time to deliver. Also sometimes practicality > realism.
At very least they need to implement a group storage.

I totally agree on the mail delivery system. It's what an mmo needs. many play with more than 1 char and are unable to get stuff to the other char without bugging somebody else. Also the trading part works very slow so it takes ages to trade stuff.
I'll jump on this wagon train, mainly because we've gone this far and the devs are fixing and adding other features other than a delivery box system. That should have been a major priority to develop, so why is it taking so long? I'd say both a mail system as well as an account shared retainer. This way you can mail to other players and use the account retainer between alts. I've already sort have been doing that but with a risk. Basically I have to make sure both of my characters I'm trading between are in the exact same spot in a ward next to the retainer and then put up the item I want to trade for 1 gil for one item or 1 gil for an entire stack. The risk factor is, that at any time someone may just happen to be looking for that item and try to get to it. Meanwhile I'm trying to exit retainer menus and logout of one character and wait til my other fully loads in to get the item for its picked off. It hasn't happened to me yet thankfully, and it is of course at my own risk, but it's the only way other than bugging a friend to act as the postal worker.
Please SE, fix this ASAP and make it next patch or sooner.
Having a retainer that's shared between your characters is a truely awesome idea. Plus it's something that actually makes cashing out those 3 euros extra in the future worthwhile. As it is now, without even a mailbox i really don't see why i would bother buying extra characters in the future.
Please please please, DO NOT add a mail system via NPC (like FF11) or retainer.
A much more accessible and less time consuming idea would be lots of mailboxes (or moogles) in the cities, allow players to mail items similar to how WoW does it.
Agreed, WoW's mail system was very nice and í can only hope to see something similiar here.
