What happened while I was gone.

I started on day 1 of CE release and stuck with the game for a few months before moving on to something else. I have continued to pay for my sub in order to get Legacy status and have played a lil here and there but not much at all. I log on yesterday and was told by some people and have been reading in forums about people charging to do things for other people. I was just curious if this being charged to do things was common on the servers. I am a 9+ year veteran from FFXI and I don't remember seeing this that often. I do recall seeing mercs from time to time offering their services for gil. I just don't remember seeing this kind of stuff when I left 10 months ago.

I think it's the fact that most people don't play anymore and that caused people have been willing to pay for help in order to get their stuff done before ARR. There was also an exploit that made quite a large number of people have a lot of extra gil so that doesn't help either.

This doesn't happen on my server though, so this is only my best guess.

The part where people want to help is still there. If you don't believe so sit in Uldah and you'll see people shouting for help all the time and most git their party filled.

The difference is one is asking for help, the other is a service. There are groups of people out there that have mastered a raid/fight and can sell success not help. A person can get 7 other random people to help for free with no promise of success. This might take days/months to complete something this way. New people and returners without gil are more than welcome to clear content this way. Why others who have extra gil and want to save time and effort have an option to pay.

I don't understand in your wall of text where you are getting this idea that the only way to get things is to pay? Asking for random help is still very alive. Don't try to downgrade the community.

Also if you are a 9+ year vet of FFXI you'll know that Merc groups have been around forever. Please don't say that try to imply that FFXI didn't have this same concept.

Lastly, since you log on so little I don't see how you can say that the only way to get things is to pay? I don't see any basis for your argument with such little experience in the community. Please play more to get a better feel for the environment before making accusations that you really don't know.

Aye, it wasn't really meant as an accusation, just an observation and things I have heard from some people as well, also said people were people I didn't know as well. I do plan on playing more often to see for myself and I do completely understand the paying for a successful group to get things done to save time. Aye I do remember from time to time seeing mercs in ffxi offering services but it wasn't too often. My post wasn't meant to be seen in a negative light I was more curious than anything and it was written in a spur of the moment kind of thing (I get caught up in the moment sometimes lol), wish now I had played a lil while longer before I had made the post. Tbh I would delete it if it was possible, is it possible?

It happens on my server lol people are selling speed runs and stuff now :/ It was only a matter of time though before this stuff happened.

I'm confused? You mean the server forums that he posted in (which would be obvious that its happening on Sargatanas because this is the Sargatanas forums) or your FFXI server?

i remember seeing people on XI shouting for things and having people reply "you won't get a reply if you're not paying"
