ARR UI question

I was just curious on the ARR UI in the lower-right corner there are those green/red/blue dots arranged in 5X5 squares. I remember seeing them in the LIVE letter II but the description was in japanese so I couldn't understand. Does anyone know what those dots are all about?

Visual representation of your inventory, but I don't really understand the point of it yet.

Don't you see the advantage of having readily available information about the status of your bags on your desktop? Among other things it will allow you to learn, from a simple glance at your heads-up display, the exact amount of storage you have available; this way, you'll know whether you need to dump or npc-vendor stuff before (or during) a fight in which important drops could be lost because of lack of space. All of this without having to constantly open your inventory window or install an add-on to tell you about it. This feature alone makes the new UI a huge improvement from my vantage point.

This without mentioning that it will also let you discern, with one simple look at the HUD, the types of items you're carrying in your bags, by means of those simple color coded dots.

I wasn't questioning its usefulness, I was trying to say that I didn't (and still don't) understand was what it shows you. It's just a bunch of colored dots. What do the colors mean? Do they only represent stack fullness? I guess that could be useful for a few fringe cases (such as the one you presented), but if you don't know what items are in what slot, it doesn't seem like it would do you a whole lot of good.

id guess green is empty, red is potions, yellow is gear etc or something like that? seeing where potions is would be very usefull for example, but with drag and drop on action bar, i can finally use my potions and not forget them 24/7 because i must click into inventory every time :P (just having a number showing inventory space left would be nice too)
