DirectX Issues

I realize there are a few threads on this problem, but most seem to be specific to the new GTX card.

I've been playing this game for about 2 years now, and have never experienced any directx (directx 11) issues up until a few patches ago. At the same time I may or may not have updated my graphics driver, AMD 5870, so I cannot say this issue is game specific or something associated with the new driver.

The specific issue I have always occurs @ startup - sometimes even happens @ the login screen, sometimes @ player selection, sometimes when I initially get logged into the game. Once I get past this, and into the game, I never have directx errors.

My questions are to SE, specifically, as I have not seen a direct response from the development team regarding this issue, and to the technical users community, as I am far removed from being technically astute enough to even attempt to fix this problem.

As I understand it directx is a part of the operating system. When I google this for a fix, I see everything from:

1. a reply from microsoft tech support saying there is no fix for this
2. programs designed to fix directx issues
3. recommendations to download and updated version of my graphics driver
4. suggestions this might be a registry error, and programs designed to fix this
5. diagnostics procedures to check directx

If anyone in the esteemed technical communinity would be so kind as to help me understand what might be most likely causing this problem and the best way to go about fixing it, I would be forever grateful. Regards.

It actually has nothing to do with DirectX. FFXIV sees the GPU as a DirectX device, when the driver is crashed or a change of resolution happens, the connection between the game and the GPU is lost and then you get the message saying directX device lost.

What happen with the new GTX660Ti/670/680 is that the whole driver would crash when you are in town area with DoF/AO enabled. The fix has to come from either NVIDIA with driver update or Square Enix with DoF/AO compatibility patch.

I spent the entire morning diagnosing my directx and then a full scan of my operating system, and then I even restored my PC back to July. Reinstalled all the microsoft and other updates and yet the game continues to exhibit this problem. While this has been a periodic problem that has occured occasionally, and only during log in, or immediately following log in, it can either terminate the game or sometimes even freeze up my PC to the point I can't even do a restart and have to manually shut down the PC.

My frustration here is I have an AMD 5870 card, not Nvidia, and this has NEVER been a problem for the 2 years I've been playing this game. All of a sudden, as of a couple of patches ago, this is a major issue. So clearly, this is something SE has done in the way they did their patch. Further, I have yet to see a reply from the develpment team for ANY of these directx issues. As I understand it, directx is supposed to be backwards compatible. If I thought I only had to live with this until 2.0 I'd be less concerned, but it seems as though I saw that SE's design point for 2.0 is directx 9, which makes me nervous this issue will continue.

So, I would very much appreciate a response from the development team shedding some light on this. If this was to continue to be an issue in 2.0, I'm simply not going to play this game. Regards.
