I remember being excited when I heard about Final Fantasy XI. I planned for weeks what job I would take on, what craft I would take up. I remember having aspirations of granduer the likes of which I had never known in a game. I played for years, making countless friends and vanquishing the mightiest of foes. Sadly, a time came when I knew my adventuring days were coming to an end. I walked into Jueno for the last time, waved goodbye to all of my friends, and logged off for the last time.
When I had heard of Final Fantasy XIV, I began to seethe with pure joy. It was all flooding back. What new adventures would we be taken on, what monsters lie in wait to ambush us?! We logged on the first time, and for most of us, it wasn't the adventure we were longing for. It didn't have the "oomph" that we were looking for, and for the most part, it wasn't the game we were used to. More sooner, rather than later, I cancelled my subscription, with my head held low.
A few months ago, a long time friend told me about the "new" Eorzea. The new team was starting to bring it together. I hesitantly renewed my subscription, thinking that it still would not sate my apetite for adventure...
I was wrong.
Chomping at the bits, I gorged myself on leve's and storyline quests, as well as new quests. I looked at adventurers who passed me, now taking on jobs like Monk, and Paladin. I aspired to be them. I fought my way through countless monsters, every kill closer and closer to my goal. Every quest was another chance to help the denizens of Eorzea! And what was this?! Dalamud?! Another Adventure?! I can't help but see the future burning bright. A fire has been rekindled, with no sign of stopping.
I, Saba Sarabi, Self Proclaimed Savior of Camp Tranquil, will fight on! I will fight for Justice and Honor! I will fight for all of Eorzea!
(TL;DR - Thank you SE for not giving up on FFXIV. I am excited to see the changes and all the hard work you are putting in. And even more so, thank you to the people who, unlike me, stuck with the game and never doubted it.)

i know what the OP means to me FFXI was the greatest MMO ever made no other game kept me playing for a few years playing everyday for hours, when nothing else has kept me around for more than a few weeks after that and i played everything out there, i started on MMO's with EQ & ultima online.
SE you gotta go back to that FFXI mind set 2002-2005 gameplay. and im not saying make it FFXI-2 just get that amazing game feel. -

That aside! The details can be nitpicked to death, and there are some I'm still eyeing warily as we move forward, but personally, I just hope ARR actually feels like Final Fantasy. Currently, there are aspects of Final Fantasy there, but they seem to be added on as an afterthought (or, they WERE added on as an afterthought and it's blatantly obvious).
I'm glad to hear that even the music is getting a new "look". Granted, I was absolutely ecstatic that Nobuo Uematsu was doing the entire soundtrack when XIV was originally in development, but in terms of leaving 1.0 behind and not looking back (except as a lesson for the future), I think that was probably a good decision.
