Ineffective Debuffs?

Trying to understand exactly what I am doing wrong while playing Thaumaturge. Currently, Piety is my highest attribute in order to assure my debuffs aren't resisted. The rest go into Piety and Vitality evenly.

However, in combat during leves against Blue/Green ranked mobs, 3/4 times my main debuffs (Dia, Bio, Paralyze, Slow) are resisted, and if they do connect they generally last only 5-10 seconds at best on the target. This is almost negligible when the cooldowns on them are 30/60 seconds. Is gear my problem? I have pretty crappy equipment as is, and I am not sure if I am looking for a particular benefit on my equipment.

If you haven't updated your equipment in a while, it's probably the lower magic accuracy on your weapon. Piety affects spells by increasing your magic accuracy, but not enough to make up for old gear in most cases. If your equipment isn't that much lower than your current rank, you could consider buying jewelry that increased magic accuracy, such as pearl rings.

I have a tank build on my THM with 170 Vit 80 pie 40 mnd and 20ish Int and use 4 pearl rings and an ornate silver scepter. I stick most of my debuffs on NMs, and red/orange mobs. Mag acc is very important when it comes to sticking debuffs.

Most players on this forum notice diminishing returns on Pie above 80-90, so if you have more than 90 points of Pie I doubt that's your problem.

I would definitely recommend Pearl Rings and a +1 weapon.

Wielding a +1 weapon is an automatic 5% boost to magic accuracy, which equates to almost two "free" Pearl Rings at the higher levels.

Scourge also reduces a mob's resistance to Umbral magic (like Poison and Bio), so you might try landing that first as well.

This thread derailed into a stats/acc discussion, you might find it helpful/annoying/boring.

I typically fight NMs with 80-90 PIE. One night I went up to 202 (stat conversions and gear) and experienced more or less identical resist rates.

I do think that making a Jade Crook +2 helped, but as far as I've been able to tell, stats over 90 get severely curved. At least VIT gives you HP. ; ;

Also, I have noticed that even if my spells do connect, they almost always take aggro away from my tank. I am using single target and open with Bio, Dia, and Slow. I use Soughspeak and give the tank 5-10 seconds head start. Is this just an issue with enmity generation with some classes, or is my tank doing something wrong?

Try without Soughspeak.

I'm not sure that the enmity reduction is actually worth it 'cause the ability itself generates enmity when used. It's frustrating ._.

Agreed. The duration on buffs and debuffs is way too short. It almost makes it not worth casting.

Very true.

Aren't generally all spells ineffective? I have 150 Int with 105 Mind and Pie, I hit for 0 all the time.

Sure the spells seem to be a bit ineffective (just a bit...), but hitting 0 for all the time? Are you serious? I mean, that's not normal at all. Even with lower stats you should do damage or land your debuffs. Give concrete/real data if you need help...
