Targeting suggestions
After playing a bit more last night, after the latest patch to targeting, I thought I'd type up a few suggestions on improvements I would like to see to the targeting system. I'll add more as I remember things, but I also wanted to start a proper discussion on it, as I didn't see a set location for it (though I may have missed it in another section, direct me there if I did).
Anyways, current thoughts:
General- When the subtarget cursor comes up (for selecting a target after pressing the hotkey for, say, a spell), only allow the cursor to select targets that the action can be used on (pcs, npcs, etc).
Targeting Keys- Cycle through party members - this function shares the same keys as cycling through hotbars (at least on the keyboard). Because of this, the functionality is inaccessible during combat, when we need it the most. Change key layout (and allow these keys to be reassigned)
- Targeting hotkeys (defaulted to F1, F2, etc...) do not work when selecting a subtarget. Allow their use in this situation.
- Allow the "select next target" and "select previous target" (currently on right and left arrow key) to be reassigned.
Macros- Add more targeting options for macro use. For example, bring back target selection terms like <stpc>, <stnpc>, <r>, etc...

This would definitely be beneficial. This was exactly how it worked in FFXI. I really liked how it worked because it seemed intuitive, so long as you macroed the appropriate target command <stpc> for healers and <stnpc> for dps and tanks.

I can't believe they don't have these. If FFXIV is going to keep the same method of command shortcuts versus action bars like most other MMOs, these are pretty vital. Thanks for providing these suggestions; I find the controls and UI to be my greatest frustrations with enjoying the FFXIV experience.
