Ironmouse at fanfest
Hey all, I wanted to ask a question.
I know Ironmouse has played ff14 on stream, and says they enjoy the game, but I cant help but wonder why they have given her a panel at fanfest? Shes not an ff streamer, she doesnt make ff content. It feels very... performative?
I may be incredibly wrong, and wondered other peoples opinions on it.
I just think that if you were gonna give a panel to anyone, theres a TON of ff14 dedicated creators that do wonderful things with their community.
I know shes going to preform a song and thats.. alright. But having Ironmouse on the dev lyric writing panel is gobsmaking to me. I wanted to hear the devs talk about writing the songs, not a content creator.
Unless shes got a new song in the new patch or expac this feels incredibly redundant and insulting.
I suppose I can use the time shes doing her panel to do the floor events but still...
Am I alone in this? this feels.. super weird.

It's no different than hiring pop/rap artists to perform at sporting events. Pulling in someone with a sizable audience can get you business from that audience. I think you're just reading too much into it man, this is a very common practice.

Perhaps. It just chaps my hide to see square pass over on so many talented people who DO work with their community to make content about their game over.. this. Guesting for a song sure, but a panel? I cant wrap my head around it.

Better Ironmouse then someone like Asmongold.

IMO... This is a good thing..
They need to do more to try and draw other audiences in, and I'm sorry but having a content creator from XIV does very little to grow it versus a larger content creator outside of the space. You bring in a lot of players that aren't necessarily actively watching this space.

Honestly, I have no idea who that is lol.

Eh, I'm kinda with you. I understand why they are doing it-- this is a marketing opportunity, and a way to draw in fresh faces. However, fanfest is for fans. If a streamer I liked was sponsored at an event for a game I didn't care about, I would say, "good for them," and go on my way. IM streams a lot of react content and co-op games, and I don't imagine a lot of demographic overlap for that and XIV unless they're fans who play it already. At least Asmon was known for an MMO, so it made more sense to poach his viewers, whether you think that was ultimately good for the community or not.
I don't think "she played ARR onstream and plays offstream otherwise" is a good enough reason for being the face of a panel like this. You are right, we have plenty of content creators who actively give back to the community, many of them artists and musicians as well, and some are even VTubers if they really want to try to court that demographic. At the end of the day, she is extremely popular, and a "safe" and "marketable" choice for promotions, without as much red tape that would come with trying to hire a corporate-affiliated VTuber for the job. So, insulting may be a bit dramatic, and I do wish the best for her and her performance, but I can see why some people feel confused or disappointed.
