7.X Dye Consolidation
Great news about consolidating the dyes into just three new dye items. However, I do have to wonder why not just one dye item? Why the half step? Honestly please just go the way of glamour prisms and just do the one item. You just need the one item (not related to cash shop) and pick a dye from the list.

If you’ll note that it’s divided up by source of dye (ordinary, Ishgardian Restoration, Cosmic Exploration) I think it’s because they want to still incentivize people to do IR and CE. Which is a stumbling block to people who don’t want to do those things, but only a minor one, especially because I think all the IR dyes can also be gotten from CE. It’s not the greatest possible convenience, but it’s a lot better than before.

Dye Changes
Personally I think it should be broken down a bit more. Not all of the 85 dyes are the same price and they have varying sources. I would consolidate them more like this:
Terebinth: No change. 60 gil from NPCs.
Domestic Dye: Consolidating the 20 General Purpose dyes that are primarily obtained from venture coffers.
Imported Dye: Consolidating the 20 online store dyes.
General Dye: Consolidating the 17 dyes that are sold for 40 gil from various NPCs.
Premium Dye: Consolidating the 15 dyes that are sold for 216 gil from various NPCs.
Custom Dye: Consolidating the 20 dyes (or 28 if you include the Ixali dyes) that are crafted.
Association Dye: Consolidating the 16 dyes sold by the allied society NPCs at lower reputation for 216 gil or local society currency.
Union Dye: Consolidating the 17 dyes sold by the allied society NPCs at higher reputation for 334 gil or local society currency.
Restoration Dye: Consolidating the 9 dyes that are obtained in exchange for scrips/cowrie.
Cosmic Dye: Consolidating the 11 dyes that are obtained through Cosmic exploration.
This would better preserve the core gil value differences as well as somewhat maintain the availability restrictions tied to the various dyes.

I really think B and C types could have just been one type.

Technically, yes, except eliminate both the Domestic Dye and the Imported Dye. Which is what they've done. The general purpose, pure, and metallic dyes are not being consolidated because that would affect the marketboard and the cash shop.
But then imagine a world where instead of consolidating the dyes, we had this patch note instead. "More dyes are now available from all dye vendors, including crafted and Allied Society dyes." And of course, not the general purpose dyes. This change would probably be popular and fairly inconsequential. And I think that's an intentional side-effect of this change. The designers maybe did internally start with what you had before realizing that Custom Dye/Association Dye/Union Dye was something they actually didn't care about once they examined it.
