[NO Implementation Request] Sharing a “Fantasy New Job” Concept Thread in the JP Foru

A little while ago, I ran a slightly unusual experiment in the Japanese General Discussion section.

For about 14 consecutive days, I hosted a user-driven content thread where I posted one new job concept per day — under one strict premise:

This is NOT a request for implementation.

It was purely a creative exercise: imagining new jobs without demanding they ever be added to the game.

Here’s how the thread was structured:

Fantasy New Job Production Thread

“The Kyoumi nai ne”【Content: Normal or Hard / Participation Only】

This thread progresses only through:

Impressions (feedback), or

Fantasy new job production posts

Everything else (arguments, nitpicking, baiting, escalation) is not allowed.

Participation Rules (Common)

>No arguing against impressions (including by the thread creator)

>No nitpicking / debate-baiting / personal attacks

>No provoking from the feedback side either

>This is NOT a request thread (no demands or pressure for implementation)

>There are people on the other side of the screen. Please write with respect.

※ “Kyoumi nai ne” is a Japanese meme phrase often said by Cloud in Final Fantasy VII.
Literally it means “Not interested,” and loosely in English it can feel like “It’s not my problem.”
In this context, it means: We are not interested in whether this will be implemented.

I posted one job per day for two weeks.

Apparently, Japanese players are quite shy — very few people stepped in on the feedback side.

So I became curious:

How would English-speaking players respond?
What kind of impressions or fantasy jobs would you throw into the mix?

That curiosity is why I’m bringing this here.

If you’d like to participate, I welcome impressions.
However, I will apply similar rules here as well.

Weapon: Gambit
Role: Tank

Concept: Magic Blade Parry Tank

Production Start

What exactly is “parry”?

Was it only about split-second reactions?

No.

Originally, parry meant to deflect an attack so that it never truly lands.

From that idea came this concept:

Magic Blade Parry.

At last, you can officially wield magic blades.

Do you remember Celes’ Runic from Final Fantasy VI?
It absorbed incoming magic and neutralized it.

But let’s be honest.

You also want to attack with magic blades, don’t you?

This job fulfills both.

Enter the Spell Soldier.

Yes — you can become a Soldier.

Their weapon?

A mechanized shifting armament called the Gambit.

It has no fixed shape.

It transforms depending on the element of the magic blade infused within it.
It becomes “something,” but never retains one stable form.

However, for practical reasons — especially to enable parrying —

its default configuration resembles:

A shield-like defensive state

A reverse-gripped dagger engraved with runes

That much remains constant.

Core Gameplay Concept

The Spell Soldier is a tank that specializes in intercepting attacks through Magic Blade Parry.

But be careful.

Magic blades consume MP.

This makes the job highly technical — you cannot simply spam parries.

Timing matters.

When you successfully parry, energy accumulates within the Gambit.

This mirrors the role of Runic from earlier.

Even imperfect parries will generate gauge if MP is spent —
but absorbing stronger enemy attacks fills it faster.

So what happens when the gauge is full?

The Gambit transforms.

It recreates the stored magic blade.

This is the Magic Blade Counter.

The accumulated parry energy converts into magical retaliation.

In simple terms?

Revenge.

Lore Origin

This is not a job born of the Source.

It originated in the First.

Among the people of a city consumed by the Flood of Light,
this was their method of survival.

Weapons alone were meaningless against stagnating Light-aspected aether.

Thus they developed a combat art focused on preserving their own aether through redirection.

The Gambit — resembling a shield — symbolized that protection.

They resisted the Sin Eaters for a time.

But when the Flood overwhelmed their settlement, the art nearly vanished.

Now only a few inheritors remain.

However—

Because you saved the First,
they have begun to step forward once more.

Party Utility

Why does every tank have a short, distributable defensive buff?

For Spell Soldier, the answer is unique.

Magic Blade Parry can automatically apply its defensive effect to the highest enmity target —
without requiring target switching.

Even as an off-tank, you can support the main tank through parry redirection.

Eventually, the power flows back to you.

However, that alone would make it too automatic.

So you also gain:

Magic Blade Protect — a manually cast defensive infusion for an ally.

Different magic blades allow flexible party protection.

Master the art of flowing attacks rather than blocking them outright.

Lead your party through overwhelming assaults.

Now then…

Allow me to demonstrate.

Observe as I perfectly parry the devastating spell:
“Costga.”

BOOM.

Ah.

It appears both my Gambit and my Soul Crystal have been blown to pieces.

I shall leave the mastery of existing jobs to you all.

Weapon: Pocket Watch
Role: Healer

Concept: Prophecy & Apothecary
A healer built on predicting the timeline.

Remaker introduces a third healing style beyond pure and barrier:
Reactive healing.

Instead of restoring HP after damage, Remaker casts prophecies before it happens.
If the predicted condition is fulfilled, the effect activates and mitigates or heals.

Example:
Prophecy of Resolve – Place on a tank.
If they endure incoming damage without falling, the prophecy triggers and restores them.

Multiple prophecy types would encourage encounter knowledge and timeline awareness.

Apothecary System

Offensive spells generate two gauges (DoT and direct magic).
These allow battlefield synthesis of tailored remedies when prophecy alone is insufficient.

Remaker balances foresight and real-time alchemy — a dual identity of foreteller and field apothecary.

Trade-Off

Raw healing output is lower than existing healers.

However, fulfilled prophecies can grant:

Automatic resurrection without Weakness.
(Not a standard Raise.)

Major prophecies may cost over half of maximum MP.
Failure carries heavy punishment.

This healer demands:

Timeline knowledge

Mechanical execution

Commitment

Originating in Hingashi, Remakers were traveling disaster forecasters who used regional aether to prevent catastrophe.

Now they face a future even their predictions cannot overcome.

They require the aid of the Warriors of Light.

And one final prophecy:

“The Prophecy of Non-Implementation.”

This job will not be implemented.

My best friend would adore this one and because of that I would love to see it added, or anything clock-themed like that :)

Job Name: Destiner
Weapon: Wand
Role: Caster DPS

Concept: Battle with love and destiny.
A caster that builds love and other good emotions to battle bad guys. Single player and party buffs line their skill bar as they fight evil by moonlight.

Job name: Channeler
Weapon: Dual Rods (think Taishi Ci's from DW)
Role: Tank

Taking Gridania's lack of a native tank and a bit of creativity from some more aggressive Padjal, White magic is paired with Black magic through two dowsing rods. One rod handling earth, wind and water, the other ice, lightning and fire. Think pairing wind and fire for a firestorm AoE attack, or earth and ice to make a giant glacial wall for a tank LB3, instead of Red mage's use of them separately.

More MP dependent than other tanks. Tank stance adds healing and enmity to weaponskills (White Phase) but gives increased MP regen without it (Black Phase) giving the stance button a little use outside of tank swaps.
