In FFXI it was very normal for 3 hour maintenance to turn into 12 hour ones and 12 hour ones to turn into 36 hour ones yes. at the beginning of FFXIV's life 3 hour maintenance could easily turn into 5-6 hour maintenance times. How ever SE has been getting allot better figuring out how long things should take and the past couple of patches all maintenance's have either finished on time or about 30 minutes early. As for this maintenance which one are u talking about? I would assume you are talking about the 3 hour emergency maintenance that happened yesterday, and that one did last exactly 3 hours so I don't know what it is you are talking about.
