Small things in FFXIV you quietly appreciate

I thought it might be nice to share some of the smaller, quieter details in FFXIV-
not the big systems or features, but the subtle touches that make the world feel alive when you slow down.

Things like music cues, idle animations, weather changes, NPC dialogue, or the way a city sounds at certain times of day. The moments you might only notice when you’re not rushing.

There’s no right or wrong way to respond.
A single word, a short line, or a longer reflection ~ all are welcome.

Examples:
“Gridania rain”
“Ul’dah night music”
“Idle animations”
“NPC background chatter”

Or anything else that feels meaningful to you.

Even noticing is enough.

I’ll go first.
I really appreciate the community spaces we have in FFXIV, like Limsa Lominsa. I love that we can all have our own house, decorate it with our own expression, and share it with a group through our FC.

I enjoy meeting individual people who do not necessarily mirror my own personality, but have their own. Even when it is surprising, I find it beautiful to see others expressing themselves so freely. I often find it quite comical too, like when I meet people who swear a lot. Nothing is ever truly wrong unless we perceive it that way, and even that comes from our own experiences.

I have a lot of love for everyone. I hope you are able to play the game in flow with your own nature. And as a gentle reminder, remember to hydrate, nourish yourself, and give yourself kindness, as if you were caring for your own inner child. <3

How patient players can be when things go 'pear shaped' in dungeons/trials/raids etc.

I've played games where players could become downright toxic if/when things didn't go to plan or you didn't perform to their exacting standards. Needless to say I didn't continue playing those games.

Discovering how tolerant FFXIV's in-game community are when the team, for example, wipes was a breath of fresh air that I've always been appreciative of.

Wide eyed sprouts and the novice network

I played FF11 and quickly realized I appreciated the most basic things:

- A map that can display while I am running by pressing M.

- Map transparency.

- Not needing to use a menu that is designed around controller use.

- Hotbars.

- 2.5 GCD, which is faster when compared to FF11.

You don't know what you have until a game actually doesn't have it...

being able to buy MSQ skip. It saved my sanity many times

Disregarding the well-documented issues with Viera and Hrothgar for a moment; Being able to wear hats with your hair still visible.

Specifically the hairstyle you chose, and not a single specific hat that has a standardized wig attached to it.

I play the other 'Big 4' MMOs sometimes, and for all the other cool features they have I'm still always surprised they don't have this yet.

This really should be account bound though, I am so, so sick of the alt-unfriendliness in this game and how everything is bloody story locked ><

But anyway...

I would say short of the past couple years, I like the tiny bits of lore we get from holiday events. My favorite is All Saints Wake, but the others are pretty fun too. Usually I also look forward to the rewards, if they're any good. I loved the floating pumpkin with bat wings housing item, and the little bat stickers one year too.

Come to think of it, there's a lot of fun furnishings I enjoy that are added every patch. It's always fun to go into 'preview housing items' then 'new' to see what's there. I always find something I'm like 'oh wow, I really want to use this!'

I appreciate how good of a job that the fishing holes do at exposing the some of the beauties in zones

Weather systems that when perfectly timed just make a zone look insanely gorgeous. (Floating City of Nym in specific lighting scenarios for example)
