Many people seem excited for it.
But to me personally, I'd rather keep it there like hotbars otherwise it's not useful.
I want to try and use it, any tips what I should place there?
it could be useful if you need a place to put a lot of stuff you use only once in a while, so you don't want to create keybinds for all of them but also don't want their icons on your screen all the time. if I hadn't already bound a bunch of shift/ctrl + letter keys to switch jobs I'd definitely use this to switch jobs for example.
I guess it could also be useful for crafting macros, emotes, perhaps miscellaneous other text macros
I used macros to organize all my gear sets on hotbars that I could toggle on and off, so the panel freed up 5 bars and 5 slots that the macros occupied. I realize that I made it needlessly bloated, but space saved is space saved.
I like it, at least as a start. I had some macros and so forth to do something similar, but I'm happy to clean that out as I never was fond of maintaining it. I have a tab for combat job switching, one for doh/dol, one for utilities, and one for my most used crafting macros.
On my wishlist of changes we'll never see: Make smaller or, better yet, resizeable. Make changing the tab icons less janky, holy moly! And, make each tab have its own open/close option. Like, job switching tab I want to auto close, but crafting macro tab I do not. And yeah, I realize that's on me for treating it like a hot bar.
I use it to put all my job sets in there, so it takes a single slot on a hotbar that I click and it expands all my job sets to click on. That it can close immediately after on its own is good for this type of use.
On controller, the Command Panel defaults to the center tile every time you open it, which is kind of pesky. Otherwise I'm using it for job changes, emotes, and food and it's been working well so far.
