Tales of Adventure pricing is just wrong!

I was considering advancing one of my characters via Tales, and as I thought about it, it seems to me that pricing of these things is really broken. I mean, they charge you by which expansion you want to skip to right? But why should it cost the same to complete ShB if you are just starting a character versus one that's completed HW??

These should be priced by how many expansions there are to skip, not by just simplistically by the destination expansion :(

Hasn't anyone pointed this out to SE before, it's just plain unfair!!

It sure is confusing. It's worth waiting for a sale to come around if you're not in a huge rush.

Just reached 3.0 on my NA alt after not wanting to buy a skip, and the sunk cost fallacy is real. The skip tempts me, but I don't want the last few days to have been wasted.

20€ doesnt sound much for saving 100+ hours of your time oô

It indeed is wrong.
For something that needs to be free.

Yep, $25 for the full skip in NA. Given the amount of time your saving, I agree, it's fair.

The Mogstation store does not price on character levels, as it has no idea what level your character is. The store is integrated enough to determine character names and realms (for delivery purposes), but nothing else.

The story skip is based on where you want to start next. It's perfect for the player who played through most of ARR and ended up at level 60 with their single job. [Been there, done that]. It is not useful to purchase Tale of Adventure: Shadowbringers if you are a level 1 character. You still need to level up to 70 before you can resume playing the storyline.


The job skip (Tales of Adventure: One Hero's Journey) guarantees a level 90 character without regard for where you are in the story itself. Don't use a job skip unless you want to start at the current expansion or you plan to also use it together with a story skip to begin at level 70 as Reaper, level 50 as a Samurai, level 60 as a Dancer (as examples).

Advice: Look for sales during holidays. The annual anniversary usually has sales, as does the upcoming holiday sales (most likely this year after the 7.4 release)

The pricing is fine, the issue is that it really should not feel mandatory to buy. At this point making an alt just requires a skip unless you happen to have hundreds of hours of spare time. The MSQ system in general needs looking at for new folks catching up, old players returning and alt creation. Any MSQ time investment from expansions after the current should be optional, not mandatory. Add more XP to side quests, un-nerf FATEs in old zones, allowing jobs to catch up as well.

If a skip is expensive but entirely optional it is a luxury and fine, same as cosmetics.
If it's necessary and expensive you are creating a pay to win system. Do not want to level all jobs yourself for the achievements? Just buy them.

There should be a better balance between quality of life while progressing and them still making money off people who have money but not time.

Alt?
It feels like tales+job boost is a requirement to even start the game. It's 2025. It's like, 5 expansion. Fresh player is not interested to spend like 300 hours to get to try that battle he saw in advertisement video for the game.
