Vows of Virtue, Deeds of Cruelty: Solo duty, again...

Hello All

After doing some funny side stuff that re-motivated me at the game, I decided to follow up on the msq post Shadowbringer. Guess what? After a few no-action quests, the first action quest is a solo duty, forcing me to play a different class than my (and worst case for me, a melee)... Noooooooo... I could bang my head on table out of despair. :(

I seriously feel like giving up the msq. I want to see the next world/story of course, but more than that, I want fun. Solo duties are the opposite of fun to me, so I start pondering if it's worth going through the hassle.

Therefore my question: Is it the same for all what follows after Shadowbringer: Solo duties forcing to play a different class than own? Or will it eventually come back to duties we do as a team (NPCs or real players) and with own class?

Yes it's commonplace. If you can't bear it, maybe you're right that you should stop playing this videogame.

I honestly wish I could tell you that you won't have to endure any more solo duties but sadly that isn't the case.

And for the record, I hate them too.

There are other duties where you play as NPCs, yes. However, you are close to the patch where they begin making save points for it. I only remember one after Endwalker starts, but it's possible I've forgotten.

Actually there is one other after Endwalker begins but it's just 1 button really.

Exmo, thank you for the laughing. After playing videogames since decades, it's funny to see that certain things never change... ;)

A rapid double posting to follow up and finish the thread: I just did the solo duty and got it done on my first try in normal mode. That was zero fun, especially as melee is a problem to me due to motion sickness. However, it's behind me and that's what matters. I'm sooooooo relieved and happy!

On a side note, two key tricks helped me against the final boss:
- I was always under his belly, tickling there non stop.
- During 2nd part of the fight, I always kept an eye on my health and gave priority to maintain it high (close to full). The advantage was that during hotter phases, I could afford to let my health go down and gave priority to other actions, without being in danger of dying. I never let my health go below half bar.

NGL, when i saw the name of the thread i actually looked up which solo duty it was to potentially offer assistance. A few i remember by name, most i do not. Clearly this assistance is not needed, congrats on clearing the Estinien fight. So to answer your question, they see these "play as someone else" duties as a storytelling tool. Why TELL you that Estinien fought his way out of the castle and ran into a strange prototype along the way when you can PLAY the sequence. As such, some people love them and of course some people hate them. You will continue to run into them from time to time. It is very rare to get more then one of them between full group dungeons(and indeed, you did a dungeon already in this patchs content - Grand Cosmos and the Estinien fight are the same patch). And indeed, group dungeons, trials, raids, and solo duties where you play as yourself FAR outnumber these "guest role duties". Off the top of my head, i cant think of the next one youll come across or how far away that is. But if you need help with it when you do, we're still happy to provide.

Everything that I was going to said has already been said (and much better, too) by others. So I'm just here to say keep up the good work and I hope MSQ treats you well!
There will be save points in future solo duties, so even if you struggle you won't always have to start again from the beginning. And you have the forums to get some advice from if you're stuck! :o
