Tried Dyeing a Chocobo.

Many thousands of gil and a large amount of time wasted on trying to get a choco to soot black from midnight blue. Apparently the results are random now, or could have been all along. So I stabled the choco and won't bother looking in that direction again.

i don't think they ever changed the algorithm for it. the chocobo color calculator website helps a lot but isn't 100% accurate. its kind of trial and error.

The chocobo companion system is more half-baked than adventurer squadrons. Just give us instant dye fruits instead of an antiquated, obtuse, and needlessly complicated process if you're not going to do anything else with chocobos, CBU3

Don't fully trust the 'order/number of things to feed' listings the calculator pages provide, you have to keep feeding your horsebird the same thing until "Your chocobo is growing new feathers." pops up to tell you that you actually are progressing the color change, and then switch to the next color fruitveg.

I've before dyed my chocobo not being aware of that pop up being a thing so I ruined quite few attempts at going for specific color, but after I learned of that detail it upped the chance of getting the targeted color by a lot if not 100%.

Oh and also don't be afraid to use the Han Lemon for a clean slate to begin from.

My experience with the online calculators is that they are close but not 100% accurate. But you can fix it on the next try anyway.

Each of the 3 fruits is meant to represent Red, Blue, Green. 3 for plus, 3 for minus. You may be familiar with this concept from using paint programs or if you've coded with the likes of CSS and HTML. Each color can go up to 255.

From my experience, swapping between the fruits you need to feed it is the only way I can get reliable results. Need 7 pears and 9 fruits? Feed fruit then pear, then fruit, then pear, etc. And yes, you can do it in one sitting.

Black has always been the hardest color to get, however.

Yeah, sometimes you have to feed it a couple fruit in a row for the feeding to "take". But if the chocobo didn't get to the right color the first try, the second try should take much fewer fruit since it should be much closer to the color you want.

How does 5 attempts sound. I tried 2 times from midnight blue, then reset to base with the han lemon. After another three attempts I just gave it up as stupid. I have read all the comments regarding the message and such, nothing seems to line up. It is just an annoying money sink.

So you want to try to make a Midnight Blue chocobo right? And what color are they now?
