Companion Chocobo Needs Reworked

The companion, combat chocobo needs to be reworked. Leave the ability to choose which attacks it will prefer to use as we have now. (Defensive, healing, DPS)

But add the ability to make them like how almost every other MMO/game handle combat followers/bodyguards where they will start attacking things that are attacking you.

Right now, they will only attack enemies you hit with an ability that focuses a single thing. Then, once that thing dies they will just stand next to you, even if you have other enemies attacking you. I play as scholar and I use Art of War when AOE dpsing mobs. My chocobo literally just stands next to me doing nothing 90% of the time because I'm just spamming Art of War.

I feel like they should make it an option to leave it like it now or have them act like true bodyguards.

I'd also like the ability to order them to attack first. It's dumb that they have a tank mode but you can't use them to pull.

pet ai in general is just really bad in this game.

The game is a graveyard of abandoned systems, with the chocobo's companion features being one of them.

They need to make chocobo dyeing easier, and I don't care if it crashes the market for it.

Never had this issue personally. I suppose I just never did MSQ as a Scholar due to their lower damage.

The main use I find for a chocobo, personally, is to help keep me alive with heals. Obviously this not really relevant at level 90 and level 100 due to our excessive heals and mitigation, but long in the game's history our self-heals weren't this excessive, so it was useful for the MSQ, for FATEs and especially boss FATEs or hunts, and still likely useful at low enough levels.

It is nice to help with DPS for a boss FATE, but just to AoE mobs is barely worth it anyway since there's multiple of them. You could right-click them though, because this auto attacks and signals the chocobo to attack.

Most likely not attacking enemies automatically is intentional so you can't AFK farm enemies. For similar reasons they don't normally give you a need to farm enemies in the open world, nor let you repeat macros. Because this results in players being unable to complete quests that require these enemies. This consideration even extends to the MSQ where they often just spawn the enemies specifically for you to prevent getting stuck due to someone farming enemies.

I think the change I would prefer to this system more than anything else is just being able to use lots of other companions such as NPCs, mounts or minions. But we're getting beast master soon, so there's probably no chance of that any time soon since it would be too similar.

FFXIV doesn't have the budget to update older systems.

It costs too much.

They don't have to crash the market, just remove the asinine RNG!

It could show you all the colors and highlight the ones you can obtain with the fruits you currently have. When you select one a visible timer starts.

They could even adjust it so it requires more fruits to make up for the losses due to mistakes/RNG.

This! Some lovely soul made a calculator to give you the recipe and feeding order of the fruits, but even using that, I still had to go through the process 4-5 times just to get the actual color I wanted. It’s easier once you get closer to the color you want… usually once you’re in the right color grouping you want (ie: blue), then the recipes will get you there faster.

I still use healer 'bos for FATEs at 100 with my DPS jobs. And DPS/Healer 'bos for soloing 100 level maps on tank jobs.
