What if Stoneskin Released a DoT (Damage Over Time)

Healers want to be able to do more DPS.

Square-Enix doesn't want healers to be damage dealers. (Look, the forums make it clear that healers aren't going to have DPS rotations any time soon. I don't like it, you probably don't like it, let's explore something else for a second.)

So what if protection spells countered negative effects on the bosses, like damage dealt?

Example:
Stoneskin v2 adds level of protection to allies, creates a barrier that damages attacking enemies by X% for every enemy that attacks buffed player?

- Skill gives healers something additional to do (technically a DoT, even though it's defense)
- Square-Enix doesn't cry foul on healers being healers
- Casual players learn to add this DoT to their rotation
- Savage players get an additional boost to damage output

I know there's going to be commenters screaming, "BuT ThIs IsN'T WhAt i WaNt!!11!" but let's be real for a second: the Healer's Strike has done nothing for, what, two years now? If we're going to play by Square-Enix's rules, there has to be a compromise somewhere.

Maybe there's multiple debuffs and DoTs that healers could balance and rotate. Yeah it's not a "rotation" that DPS do, but it'd give bored healers an extra few buttons on their hotbars to balance. If melee have to keep up their DoTs, why can't healers have defensive magic that also harms enemies?

And for the ultra-casual players who think Expert dungeon is hard? They don't have to worry about it. Heaven knows those Paladins and Warriors can heal themselves.

An interesting concept. Personally I love blurring the lines between healing actions and damage actions. One of the things I love most about scourge in GW2 is that its entire shielding and healing toolkit is intricately linked to its damage toolkit. In wow there are talents that give counter damage to things like shield abilities. For instance Discipline priest has a talent that can reflect x% damage dealt to power word: shield. Stoneskin would be difficult as application of it was really only done to protect a weakened target that was about to take a hit to extend their max hp by 10% back when weakness also reduced vitality. I can see it being applied to things like adlo tho. Which would also help the expert dungeon since one of my favorite things to do is swift an adlo between first and second add pack. But let it be known Square that I WOULD STILL PREFER HAVING BANE BACK PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!!!!!

As a broad statement, I feel that this is incorrect.

Healers want their damage contribution to be executed in some fashion that is more interesting and involved than spamming 112111 for 10+ minutes.

100,000% this. I main healer in every game I play except XIV now. The role is so boring.

Asking a real question though... what compromise can we really get from SE when they're already too scared to even let SGEs have an option to do 80 more potencies per minute in their media tour build through upkeeping of their 2nd DoT (today it would be 60p because Dosis III gets buffed to keep up with the rDPS healers)? You know... something that's also gets outclassed by a single shot of SCH's Energy Drain when they typically try to squeeze as much of those without neglecting their primary role? It wasn't even an interactive DoT. It barely adds any depth or thoughts. It was not a mana constraint (since when since EW?). And still they manage to buckle down against that "I dOn'T wAnT tO bE dIsTrAcTeD fRoM mY pRiMaRy DuTy!!"-post?

To me, it sounded like their kind of compromise is "keep roulette queue popping" & "functional in its barest minimum degree and not anymore than that".

as I main healer I don't want more DPS if it doesn't make sense with the job what I would like the is better support skills buffing the team for some healer and other debuffimg the enemy. the game is to focused toward DPS damaging how tanks and healers should really be.

That's why I proposed the solution in the OP to be a damage reduction with DPS bonus. People are begging for more DPS, there needs to be a way to combine the two so that Squeenix is happy and the playerbase is happy.

Could even go as far as give one healer like a bladeturn + counter, but it's only a 5s buff and single target cast, so it's an indirect nuke. Nullifies the next autoattack on the target + deals X damage in turn, but you have to be clever about it.

Or a debuff that deals damage each time the target deals damage to 1+ people. Or one that causes damage based on movement.

you mean NA lol but no true easier to do the bandaid fixing instead of a real one let's make healers sub DPS instead. in my book all "healer main" that want more DPS aren't healer main but DPS main hidden into a healer for ques

14 has always been a game where the healers are accomplished casters, hell there is multiple pieces of content that reference one of the two magii civilisations that caused the 6th umbral calamity was a society headed by the ancient equivalents of one of our healers

Healers being heal bots has never been supported by the design of 14 no matter which era of 14 you look at and it’s not wrong to say healer mains in this game like this blend when it’s done well, that doesn’t make them DPS mains
