Retainers should have more functions then storage units

My suggestion for FFXIV is to have the Retainers To be more then just storage units of items and Gil for players, Since we the Players have the option and function to customize What race and class we should also have the function and option to have them join in certain Main Story quests,Side story quests and Duty support.

They are many players whom made their Retainers from,fictional to non-fictional to even friends or family members who are no longer with us in this life.

I personal remade one of my retainers in the likeness and Resemblance of my fallen friend,
I would give anything to have my (fallen friend) retainer Accompany me in my journey thou FFXIV.

I agree, an option to replace the Chocobo as the combat companion would be great. You could use Venture Tokens to summon them instead of Greens.

The thing is, the whole idea around retainers came about because of how in FFXI players purchased extra characters specifically for extra storage space (called 'mules'), as you could freely move gear and items between different characters there, but each extra character after your first was an added fee to your subscription. SE obviously saw the potential in this for FFXIV and so retainers are the result.

Story wise it was actually stated back in 1.0 that retainers are not adventurer material but are better at handling mundane tasks that adventurers generally considered beneath them like item storage and buying and selling stuff at the market, and this is why retainer ventures they're shown.. being.. less than satisfactory in a more 'adventurous' role (my maids are maids for a reason, they may have combat experience but party members.... they are not.).
