OC is a soulless cash grab designed for sub retention and is not fun

As someone who has completed everything in eureka and bozja all I can say is this content put a bad taste in my mouth. Yes bear with me I did write an essay over it. I'm a salty baby crying on the forums.:mad:

The core problem I have is the goal as a player. In the other two you grind up for passive buffs while being able to play the way you wanted. There are bis picks for actions in both eureka and Bozja true but unlike in Bozja staying on those actions you enjoy in OC is an active detriment to your progression. I like the phantom jobs, I really do, but linking them to your phantom mastery means if I want to play the content I like I have to either not bother leveling the other jobs and potentially get passed up for Forked tower groups or suck it up and spend an OBSCENE amount of time to cap. The XP requirements for each phantom job are only as high as they are because se needs something to artificially pump up game time.

The content feels significantly more soulless as well. Not just the insane time investments needed but also how the content is run. There is zero downtime between fates and CE's. Aside from pot fates there will also never be more than one fate on the map either which boggles me given the low drop rates of the Demiatmas. In Bozja when I needed to grind rocks I just went to the appropriate zone and did fates there. Here it can be a half an hour before you even get an attempt at an Atma. Again designed to deliberately slow you down. There is no freedom of choiche in OC just push push push mindlessly into the SE approved fate for more than 24hrs of continuous game play to cap your jobs.

The fun of Bozja and eureka was to build the way you wanted, to choose the actions and pots you wanted to tailor the experience to how you want to play. In OC it is incredibly streamlined and restricted. There are no irregular potions for tanks, there are no lost seraph strikes for healers, only sub classes with predetermined kits. The whole point of a field exploration is to explore and break things by just messing around and trying out combinations that you find fun. I'll never forget how I felt when I read lost slashes description and tried it under inner release for the first time with nascent flash up on a large group of mobs. There is no exploration in OC only safe.

Eureka and Bozja weren't perfect but Bozja at least improved a lot of the systems in eureka and refined the endgame raid. DRS is still one of my favorite pieces of content in the game. Occult Crescent just honestly feels like a step back in terms of game play and was lazily developed so they could force you into spending more hours grinding out fates telling yourself, "I cant wait to play the content the way I want to when I cap my phantom mastery," rather than enjoying it as you go.

Did you play Bozja and Eureka when it came out? Because if yes you should know how boring and what for a soulless grind both of them were.

Bozja to reach Level 20 or was it 15? i cant remember it perfect anymore but what i know is when it came first out it did take AGES to reach that level if you didnt want to grind 10h a day
Eureka the same, no Mount until Lv 20 it was slow and a pain in the ass

and if im honest i rather have only 1 fate/ce up at the time but that non stop without really a big break then the shit waiting room for CE was Bozja and the endless annoying Monster grind to pop up fates aka Eureka

Then we had in Bozja with a later map the dmg buff you gain if you reach max level and spend even more exp, how painful it was to reach 10/10/10 stacks? i rather level the phantom jobs to get masteryranks then the shit we had in Bozja btw all Phantomjobs are straight up ass most of them having 1 or 2 good skills but the rest of the kit is plainful useless and no point in using it, i mean i reached now 8 mastered jobs and i didnt even bother about the action they give me

And yea you had more freedom of choice in Eureka/Bozja but when it finally was time for BA or Delebrum, your freedom was gone because everyone used the same shit and expected to use it too

Bozja and Eureka had no really exploration either, you joined a group you run from fate to fate heck even when it comes down to CE you chilled your balls in the Base until a Fate/CE popped up and thats it.


I really dont know if people just forgot how both of them were when they were fresh released or if they did it when both of them are already finished 100% but like i said previous both of them were trash and improved with the time, the same will happen with OC

Yes it's designed for sub retention. Because players cried out for something to retain their sub. They were saying there was nothing to do and that they were unhappy being asked to play other games.

I agree this is an issue. However, people complained when there was downtime back in Eureka. There were a lot of people that only play 2 hours a day after work and were unhappy that 50% of that was downtime. SE has to choose who to please here. We just have to resist the temptation to do FATEs and CEs in order to do other things like gold farm, treasure or FT. For me, that will be when I've leveled all the Phantom jobs I can.

Demi-Atmas being notoriously grindy and Korean MMO RNG is acceptable given it's current content and you only have do it once (if it was more than once I'd agree with everyone else). They're obviously going to buff drop rate or reduce the number of demi-atmas required when it's not the relic of the now.
The battle content itself is fine, Forked Tower itself is a great raid and is actually fun once you get inside until someone aggros an add on bridges and kills everyone and then you have to wait 30 minutes or Instance Boss (Ultimate) to go again.

I've enjoyed Occult Crescent, but it's the bottleneck of that one dev on the team that seems to be so unfathomably incompetent they manage to make good content that's been created by the rest of the dev team frustrating and inaccessible.

I think the basis of OC is fine. The issue comes into play with how Forked Tower is, and how everything seems pointless if you can't get in there (or don't want to, which understandable with how it is). Once I got the 500 fates and 500 ce achievements, I felt like I was there scratching my head going "now what?".

They can retain my sub if they can make the content engaging and fun.
Unfortunately I'm still looking for where the fun is to be found in OC.

I enjoyed Eureka/Bozja for what they were, even if they had their (many, many) flaws lol.

OC though? It feels…soulless? Like if an AI was asked to generate content based on Eureka/Bozja with the additional prompt of ‘Make it vaguely FFV flavoured’. Then shrunk the map lol.

Why do people keep falling for this?

It's even always the same avatar style...

OC is just what the entire overworld should have been feeling like. There's nothing special about this as an exploratory zone and is a direct downgrade from Bozja.

Sub-retention should be the goal of a sub-based product. LOL
