8.0 job discussion
Hey guys, there probably has been a thread about this before but i couldn't find it so i decided to start one myself.
Mainly just wanted to speculate a bit on what the jobs added in 8.0 are going to be.
It's most likely that it will be a Tank and Phys ranged like it was in Shadowbringers, but maybe we could discuss what those jobs could be, or at the very least what type of weapons they're gonna use?
My thought was to have a tank with a big tower shield, but i'm unsure what else.
As for the phys ranged, my money was entirely on Cannoneer, that is, until they revealed cannoneer would be a phantom job in Occult Crescent, so now i have no clue if any previously existing FF job could fit the bill.
Any ideas?
(P.S: PLEASE DON'T TURN THIS INTO ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT JOB IDENTITY/BALANCING)

I know Yoshi-P said "NO BLITZBALL!" but a blitzballer physical ranged class with a suite of DoTs and debuffs would be neat and would have fun and dynamic motions. There's only so many ways you can make shooting a gun or a bow look "active" but a ball that can be thrown, kicked, punched, batted, headbutted, etc. would look interesting.
As for tank, the last tank plundered the FF main character roster for material. Not sure what else could be done from there though.
Right now we have nothing to go on for any serious speculation. Yoshi-P once said that he couldn't imagine an expansion that didn't have 2 new jobs but supposedly this next one will have the gameplay overhaul too so I can imagine the devs would already have their hands full and I wouldn't surprised if we only get physical ranged. After that, everything will be more or less balanced as far as numbers go.

I just hope the next rphys isn't going to be more meme or clown job, and something with actual seriousness to it. DNC is nice, don't get me wrong, but blitzball and whatnot? The role is already a joke.

It’s completely open tbh and with Reaper / Sage and Viper / Picto they seem to go the “one original and one made up job” route.
Viper and Ninja have also shown that they aren’t afraid to have the jobs have similar weapons even in the same role and there already existed a Scythe on the cashshop before Reaper appeared.
Occult crescent having Cannoneer doesn’t exclude it later because we have also seen BRD there.
The question is mostly with the job rework in 8.0 and if it distinguishes jobs more again because that might decide in what niche or “sub role” the new jobs end up (support like Dancer for example).
If I had to choose I would love Templar for a tank. A spear wielding tank that uses magic in its attacks and is more support oriented.
For ranged I personally think a true Archer like job or Jongleur would be cool (just imagine their tactics advance creepy makeup on Lalafell).
IF I had to have a dream job for ranged that would be Chocobo knight.
A pseudo ranged that can dash in and out quickly by calling its companion (like a RDM with more focus on that mechanic).

I want Gunner, specifically based on Yuna's base Dressphere in FF X-2, dual wielding pistols, all moves revolve exclusively around the pistols, get anime as fuck about it, rapid shots, putting the pistols together for a big charged shot, so on, but I want my gun katas and a gun job that isn't just engineer that has a gun on the side.

can't wait for them to introduce a ranger dps with melee combo since the only thing they seems to enjoy making are mele dps.
Will have a one handed crossbow and a whip or maybe one handed gun and sword who knows.
Pirate class because you know south america, carribean islands and such.

You need another effects glamour?
If this was a real game and not just entering a f...ng Konami code 500times/hr while running around like a monkey then they could probably add a shapeshifter/druid kinda class but I have zero faith in Yoshi P's ability/ambition to even fix the base game with 8.0.

If they go to Meracydia... Ranger wise, Whipblades/ Lashes with Medjay/Scorpion thematic or Boomerangs with a Wastelander thematic(Artificer? Scavenger?).
Tank wise... I'd love to see a Double shield-claws class that combine into one huge shield kinda like Garly Gunshields or a Tankified Geomancer with a big hammer that uses terraforming. 83

I'm probably alone with this opinion but I would rather see no new Jobs. The Devs fail to make our current jobs interesting and balanced, constantly smoothing it down ti make encounter design and hightire raiding as easy on them as possible.
So why wast time and effort on new Jobs who will end the same way.

We still need a job specialising in hammers and/or maces, there's not a lot of classic jobs that use them apart from maybe Viking. I could see them being a good choice for a future tank, I'm just unsure on what kind of playstyle they'd offer.
For a ranged physical, we still haven't got a crossbow user. If we're willing to overlap weapon types, I wouldn't mind another bow job for those who want a "pure archer" instead of the bard/archer hybrid we have now. We could make the bows massive and just call them Warbows or something to differentiate. Ranger would be the classic job to reference here. But if I really had a choice, I think I'd like to see a hand-cannon job with Cannoneer; let me lob cannonballs at large packs of mobs, toss out bombs with various effects, and overall just let me unga-bunga with big numbers and explosions.
Other contenders would be a one-handed spear job with a shield (unlikely I think, if given the chance I feel like Square would rather remove shields from PLD), a duel-shield job (ironic considering my last statement), and a whip job (I think you could make a case for whips being a ranged weapon, they are meant to have a long reach).
