Cosmic Exploration - When a FATE is not a FATE

First I want to say that I have been enjoying Cosmic Exploration a great deal! I like this even more than I liked Ishgard Restoration! But I was very disappointed recently when the Project FATE on my server was not a FATE at all.

Instead, after waiting in expectation for about half an hour for what I expected to be the fun, frenetic chaos of the FATE event, we just got a Project Completed screen and a dialog directing us to go to the replay log!

What a disappointment! XMas was cancelled and there were no presents under the tree! I hope there will not be any more FATES that are not in fact FATES at all.

The same thing happened on Jenova. I think there was a penalty for not completing fate as we didn't progress for hours.
